The Impact of Advertising in Business

No particular advertising method is peculiar to Nigeria, but there are ideas that distinguish some adverts from others and generate the required call to action that create more awareness and sales leads to the presenter, especially in this digital age.

From my research, any advertising idea or technique can work well in Nigeria, provided the right message is passed to the right audience at the right time.

Creativity is the magic word that perform wonders in the field and practice of advertising in NigeriaOnce creativity is alligned with the right message and delivered to the target audience, the result of the advert will be positive irrespective of the method used.

In addition to established traditional methods of advertising, I have explained the different advertising ideas that work well in Nigeria and certainly will grow your business.

12 Advertising Ideas in Nigeria

However, below are the all time advertising ideas that work well in Nigeria:

1. Diversify Your Advertising Medium

Placing your adverts on various channels maybe very beneficial. Example print media advertisingThese  are adverts placed on daily newspapers, magazines, journal, periodicals, brochures etc. print media advertising is the most popular advertising idea that has worked and is working in Nigeria for a greater part of her history.

Other advertising media include electronic media(radio and television), hand bills, window display and of course the more trending online advertising.

2. Utilise the power of language:

Advertisements that portrays indigenous language content like vernacular, Nigerian pidgin, street slangs etc catches more attention and prompts action than those that appear more formal.

According to Samson Olasunkanmi, there are many people who do not understand English in Nigeria, hence when advertisement is mainly in English such people who are among the intended audience for the advert messages are marginalised or alienated.

Thus one of the recommended advertising technique that work well in Nigeria is to frame your advert messages to reflect the indigenous language of the target audience.

Almost every Nigerian tribe accepts and love pidgin English, therefore, any advertisement that is done in pidgin surely get more actions than those that are done in standard English because almost everybody both the educated and illiterate understands pidgin.

Thus advertisers who frame their messages in indegenous languages or pidgin crap more attention as far as Nigerians are concerned.

3. Packaging

An advertising expert defines packaging as a significant advertising strategy which serves as a constant communicator in terms of colour, aesthetic design, functional information to complement and enhance advertising effort.

Olasunkanmi shows a good example of packaging and the role it plays in advertising In the various herbal products Nigerians are patronanising.

Before now, such products in their crude forms were known as juju, but through packaging they now become more acceptable and even complement and replace arthodox medicines in most cases. Look at the growing popularity of Dr Iguedo Koko clinser.

4. Create a Credible Online Present

Social media is a very powerful advertising medium. Create attractive and engaging social media profiles and pages on facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.

Having done that,  don’t underestimate the value of image and content sharing on these platforms and link them to your blog and webpages for serious traffic that will provide audience to confer your message.

Post photos and videos of your business achievements, product and services and engagement with clients

5. Keep track of your competitors

Follow your competitors and see market response to their promoted product, then see what works and follow their lead. Don’t forget to incorporate some insurmountable creativity and innovation in your adverts.

6. Keep in touch with the customers physically

Not withstanding your online present, step out in the streets and keep in touch with the real clients and customers through face-face talks, sharing of flyers, pasting of posters and announcements at popular events.

This advertising technique is most effective if you hit the right people with the right message at the right time.

7. Frame Your Message to Suite your Target Audience

The intended message of your advert must be passed across to the right audience. You achieve this by doing your best to understand your customers or clients and what make them tick, and then hit the point where it most fits.

The whole concept of the message should reflect what your product or service represent.

8. Monitor Your Performance

After every advert placement and runs, get feedback and adjust to the direction of your consumer interest. Read more on how to determine if a business is profitable or not.

You can do this by keep record of responses to your advert runs and use the statistics to make proper analyses that will help you make good decision.

9. Hire Professionals

Professionals and consultants can save you the time and stress, while achieving even more with their expertise and experience. Read more how to hire the best staff for your business.

Keep in touch, and listen to the authorities in the industry and apply their thoughtful advice. Ask relevant and necessary questions where occasion warrants the advertising ideas that work well in Nigeria.

10.  Compare Product to guide your consumer

When there are other choices to your product or the service you offer, carry out systematic comparison to help your consumers or clients make the right choice, in your favour though, no matter your rank in the comparison chart.

Consider your stand while comparing. Don’t compare your product with a conglomerate if you are a startup or only a few years in the industry.

It will make you appear charlatan. You can equally get good result by comparing your product with a related one.

11.  Create Killer Captions

The titles of your advert messages must be smart enough to catch the eyes, sound enough to spark interest, convincing enough to call to action and persuasive enough to convert readers to customers or clients.

12.  Show Your Track Record:

Try as much as possible to measure your business growth. Do not ignore the value of sharing your achievements to your target audience. This will build your credibility and reputation.

I deliberately turned down the tune on traditional advertising media and focus more on online oriented advert ideas because of the times we live in. Nowadays, companies are likely going to do business online first before considering any other options.

Virtually every aspect of doing business had been altered by modern technology.  Advertising too is a potent field for this recent technological revolution.

As many Nigerians adopts digital marketing strategies by the day, there is every tendency that advertising ideas that are online based will capture their attention first, a development that could be detrimental to traditional advertising techniques in the near future.

Therefore, creating credible online present, keeping track of your competitors, keeping in touch with your customers among other ideas discussed above will make your advertising campaign in Nigeria rewarding.
