Elophone P7000 Review: Specifications and Price

This is an unbiased review on the Elophone P7000. Only few affordable smartphones are made affordable and without compromise. The Elophone P7000 is one of such phones.

Like I stated when I reviewed the Elophone P6000, Elophone is one of the few Chinese firms that offer you great value for your money.

However, I don’t particularly like their phone monikers. These streak of Ps with an extra thousand attached to it is becoming rather boring.

Anyway, looking at what the P7000 offers, you will quickly forget about its rather uninteresting moniker.

The name alone tells you that this is the successor to the Elophone P6000 reviewed earlier. And in every aspect it offers superior specs to its older brother.

5.5 inch full HD display, 64-bit Octa-core processor, 3G RAM, 13MP rear snapper, 360 degree fingerprint scanner and the sweet taste of Android Lollipop. All packed in a well crafted body.

The first thing that will attract you to this device is the aesthetic body. Unlike its predecessor, The Elophone P7000 sports one of the best body ever crafted by the Chinese company.

Finished in a combo of plastic and metal. It looks and feels premium. The bezel is made of a metal material called “Magnalium”. A special aluminium alloy with a combo of magnesium, copper, tin, and nickel. According to Elophone, the choice of this metal is because of its unique properties. Which includes being strong and offering electromagnetic shield.

The front of the phone is the 5.5 inch FHD display. Accommodating the 8MP front snapper at the top corner. And the soft keys at the bottom. With the home also doubling as the LED notification light. Unfortunately, there are no markings to indicate the menu key and the back key. But, if you are used to Android phones, then locating the keys won’t be a problem for you. Of course, as usual the home key is placed in the middle. With the menu key and back key flaunting it by the left and right respectively.

The volume rocker is on the left-hand side of the frame. While the power/standby button is placed on the right-hand side. This makes it very easy to differentiate these 2 buttons as well as take screenshots conveniently with just one hand.

The top of the frame accommodates the headphone jack and the microUSB port. While the bottom accommodates the 2 speaker grills. However, only one speaker is functional. The other grill is just there for design sake.

Flipping the device over, you will find the primary camera and the flash right at the top corner of the rear. The fingerprint scanner is placed a bit below it. While the Elophone logo is boldly inscribed at the down side of the rear cover.

The Elophone P7000 sports a full HD IPS display. Clocked at a resolution of 1920 by 1080. This translates to 400 pixels per inch. Offering great viewing angles and punchy colour reproduction. The Gorilla Glass 3 screen protector included in the box is there to ensure that the screen is always safe from knocks and scratch.

However, unlike some other devices, you have to stick this protector yourself. As it comes in the box, not on the phone.

In the camera department, the Elophone P7000 is well equipped to satisfy your photography needs.

The phone sports a 13MP rear snapper with Sony IMX 214 sensor. This is aligned with other unique features such ISO 1600, f/2.0 aperture and other regular camera features to ensure you get the best out of that massive mega pixel. There are also a range of modes to experiment with while trying to capture better images. Such as HDR, panorama, gesture shot, smile shot, anti-shake, auto scene detection, and the amazing 40 photo continuous shooting mode – the name already tells you what it does.

Overall, the photos should be punchy and vibrant even in dimly-lit places. This primary snapper can also record FHD videos at 30fps.

The Elophone P7000 serves you the sweet taste of Lollipop with Android version 5.0.

Basically, the Elophone P7000 runs stock Android UI. Having the app drawer and the standard app launcher.

Under the hood, the Elophone P7000 is run by a powerful 64-bit MediaTek MT6753 Octa-core cortex-A53 processor. Clocked at 1.7GHz. And Supported by a Mali-T760 GPU. According to Elophone, this chipset can compete with the Snapdragon 810 chipset. And above all it is very fast and offers power efficiency.

The device comes fitted with a 3GB RAM and 16GB ROM expandable up to 64GB via microSD card. Impressively, unlike most MediaTek powered devices, the internal storage of this device is not divided into system and phone storage. This means that you have access to the full storage.

Overall, the Elophone P7000 offers excellent user interface, breezy operations, fluid multitasking, and can handle 3D games smoothly.

The finger print scanner is placed at the back of the phone. Impressively, it is a 360 degree reader like that of the iPhone 6. This means that it can recognize your finger not minding how it is placed on the sensor. This finger print scanner also double as app locker. This means that it unlocks not just the screen but can be used to unlock other individual apps on the phone.

The Elophone P7000 is powered by a a decent removable battery with standard capacity of 3450mAh.

This is a great improvement over the the battery of its predecessor. And with a power efficient processor, the battery will surely render a decent performance.

See: Smartphones with long lasting battery.

On the onnectivity front, the Elophone P7000 offers you all you can get from a high-end smartphone. Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G and microUSB port.
