Airtel Africa Becomes Super Agent Of CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has granted Airtel Mobile Commerce Nigeria Ltd,  a subsidiary of Airtel Africa, approval in principle to operate as a super agent in the country. Information Guide Nigeria

According to PREMIUM TIMES, this was stated in a notice signed by the Group Company Secretary, Airtel Africa, Simon O’Hara.

PREMIUM TIMES reports that the notice was posted on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Ltd. website on Monday.

The notice reveals that the super-agent licence is distinct from the Payment Service Bank (PSB) licence which was approved for the company on November 4.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the PSB licence was required to enable Airtel provide financial services in the country.

Some of the services contained in the notice as cash deposits include electronic wallets, payments and remittances, issuing debit and prepaid cards, other financial services.

PREMIUM TIMES reports that the notice states in parts; “Under the super agent licence, we would be able to create an agent network that can service the customers of licensed Nigerian banks, payment service banks and licenced mobile money operators in Nigeria.” Jamb Result

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the super agent licence has been approved for Airtel as a result of satisfying certain standard conditions.
