It, of course, remains to be seen where the German defender will end up if he elects to leave Chelsea but one man who would not be a fan of a switch to St James’ Park is ex-Blues defender Johnson.

He said: “Yes, I do think it [moving to Newcastle] would be a mistake. Without being disrespectful, there’d be only one reason why Antonio Rüdiger would be going to Newcastle.
