About the Bank Verification Number (BVN)

The Bank Verification Number is a unique Biometric identification system established by the Central Bank of Nigeria in conjunction with the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS). This unique identification system was introduced to tackle the issues of illegal banking transactions in Nigeria. In the past, the  Nigerian banking system faced numerous financial troubles due to the porous security of the banking institutions, but that’s no longer the case with the introduction of the Bank Verification Number into the financial industry.

How to Check Your BVN Number on First Bank

To check your BVN number, follow the procedures below:

  1. Go to the Call App on your mobile phone
  2. Dial the code *565*0# using the phone number linked to your First Bank account
  3. Your 11 digit BVN number will be displayed on the screen.Things to buy for older parents
  4. Copy out the BVN number and save it.

The easiest way to link your Bank Verification details to your First bank account in Nigeria is by dialing the USSD code on your phone.

Here are the basic steps you need to follow to link your BVN details to your bank account successfully:

  1. Open your phone dialer.
  2. To link your BVN, dial ‘894 BVN# on your phone.Npower Recruitment
  3. Make sure you use the phone number you registered with the bank account. It can be MTN, Glo, 9mobile, or Airtel.
  4. For example, if your Bank Verification Number is 12345678901, then you need to dial *894 12345678901# for the linkage.JAMB Result
  5. After dialing the USSD code, you will get a confirmation message indicating that you have successfully linked your FirstBank and your BVN.

How to Enrol For the BVN Number

To register/enrol for the Bank Verification Number you need to:

  1. Fill and submit the BVN enrolment form from any First Bank branch close to you.
  2. Provide a valid means of identification which could be any of the following:
    • International Passport
    • Drivers’ LicenceJAMB Form
    • Voters’ Registration Card
    • National ID Card
  3. Wait for the request to be processed.
  4. Your request will be processed within 24 hours, and you will obtain your 11 digit Bank Verification Number.
