Five alleged oil thieves were detained for committing the crime in the state, according to the Lagos Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

“On Friday evening, my men were on ground laying siege to intercept them from carrying out their usual criminal activities. We arrested four trucks and five suspects. They have all pleaded guilty. We have taken the content of the trucks for test analysis.
Additionally, the NSCDC’s Akwa Ibom Command announced the detention of three suspected drug traffickers and the seizure of five trucks carrying 225,000 litres of contaminated automotive gas oil in the state.
In an interview with reporters on Monday in Uyo, the state commandant of the NSCDC, Sulieman Mafara, stated that the suspects were apprehended on September 9 along the Port Harcourt Bridge by the East-West expressway based on intelligence and surveillance by command personnel from the Anti-Vandals unit.
A boat carrying 13 people capsized on Sunday in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, killing two people, Bara’atu Garba and Mahmud Surajo.
Five passengers who were among the rescued casualties and were hospitalised during the tragedy, according to information obtained by PUNCH Metro, while six other victims were still unaccounted for.

He said, “On September 11, 2022, around 12.40pm, information at our disposal revealed that a particular canoe with about 13 passengers who were on transit from Dabi village toward Siyangu village all in Ringim LGA reportedly capsized.”
Shiitu said the police, upon receiving information on the accident, rushed to the scene to commence rescue operation.
“On arrival, a search and rescue mission was launched with the assistance of local divers. It led to the recovery of seven persons on the spot and were all rushed to the General Hospital Ringim for medical attention. Two out of the seven passengers found were certified dead by the medical doctor,” Shiitu said.
