Army uncovers Rivers illegal reservoirs with N3m stolen crude

The headquarters of the 6 Division, Nigeria Army, Port Harcourt, has uncovered 14 crude oil reservoirs containing approximately three million liters of stolen crude in Odagwa Etche, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State. Additionally, the Army reported the discovery of 49 boilers used in refining stolen crude in the area.

Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigeria Army, Port Harcourt, conducted a media tour of the reservoirs located in the dense forest of Odagwa Etche. He highlighted that credible intelligence led to the discovery of the 14 reservoirs, each containing over 200,000 liters of crude oil. He said a few arrests had been made, “however, those that we have arrested are not the major players in this business; they are just carriers of the stolen oil.”

He added, “Now that we have found this place with proper intelligence and investigation, we are going to get them. This discovery is part of our efforts to ensure that the government gets what is due to it,” he said.

He said the Army would continue to hunt oil thieves, so the country could meet the budget production benchmark.

“The budget has been sent by Mr President to the National Assembly and the National Assembly has passed it into law and the executive has also acceded to it and it has become law. That budget was planned based on some parameters one of the parameters is the crude oil production we churn out every day, s, any drop in crude oil production affects everybody in this country.

“Our people are not aware of that and that is why they are involved in this type of business,” he said.
