Lassa fever deaths hit 178, cases now 989

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reports that the number of Lassa fever patients has grown to 989.Information Guide Nigeria

Also as of November 20, 2022, there are 7,492 suspected cases of the disease.

The NCDC’s situation report for week 46, released on Friday, revealed that the disease had claimed 178 lives in 2022.

The research indicates that Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi states accounted for 71% of all confirmed cases.

The Lassa virus, a member of the arenavirus family, causes Lassa fever, an acute viral hemorrhagic disease.

The report read in part, “In week 46, the number of new confirmed cases decreased from 10 in week 45, 2022 to 4 cases. These were reported from Ondo, Edo, and Benue States.NYSC portal

“The number of suspected cases has increased compared to that reported for the same period in 2021.

“No new Healthcare worker was affected in the reporting week 46.
