Buhari Fecilitates with General Yakubu Gowon at 87

President of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari has rejoiced with the erstwhile Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, as he marked his 87th birthday on October 19 yesterday. Information Guide Nigeria

In a statement by Garba Shehu, the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity said he felicitates with Gowon and his family on the grace for good health and energy to keep going.

The president also commended General Gowon on the role he had played in the rebuilding of Nigeria, his advocacy for peace and oneness, and his wisdom in good governance and democracy.

Buhari, also stated that his vision for a great Nigeria resulted in the programmes he initiated in the 1970s, like the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the creation of states, and the Reconciliation, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation project. jamb results

According to Buhari, God had continued to see Gowon through as he started his career as the youngest military Chief of Staff, and youngest Head of State, before becoming a Professor of Political Science and founder of the Yakubu Gowon Centre, an organisation dedicated to good governance, infectious disease control, HIV/AIDS, and malaria.

The president celebrates with family, friends, and Nigerians and prayed for more years to the one time Head of State.

Gowon ruled for over eight years until his overthrow in the coup d’état of 1975 by Brigadier Murtala Mohammed.
