History has it that Mohammed Yusuf founded Boko Haram in 2002. History also has it that his main goal was to purify Islam that has been in Nigeria before he was born. The group’s activities are in the northeast of the country. Only God can tell the troubles that this group has caused this country – Nigeria. Islamic Movement of Nigeria is another security challenge that Nigeria is facing today. One thing that our constitution upholds is multi-religion. Everyone is free to worship whatever one likes as long as it is in a safe environment. But, Sheikh Zakzaky wants every Nigerian to become a Muslim. The Christians and other worshipers say no. It must be as it has been. This security challenge has claimed many lives.  BBNaija Winner Prize Money, Car, Travel Trips, Other Items

To those in Ijaw and Ogoni in particular, the federal government is exploiting them. This exploitation has created a serious security challenge in Nigeria today. 5. Cyber Security Challenge

Another security challenge in Nigeria today is the cyber security challenge. In this computer age, many businesses are done online. This involves the storage of data and information. Bank details and vital information are stored in cyber centres. Any threat to these pieces of information poses a serious security challenge. This is why people are always warned not to click on links that are not from a familiar source.

The cyber security challenge is not peculiar to individuals. It poses a security challenge to the government as well. Government data and information are not safe as hackers are always there to attack.

Today, COVID-19 poses a security challenge in Nigeria. As of the time of writing this article, there were 205, 779 confirmed cases of this disease with 193, 631 discharged and 2, 721 deaths. Though vaccination is ongoing, there are mixed feelings. Some people are against taking the vaccine. While it should be taken, the choice is individualistic. WAEC result

7. Kidnapping

Kidnapping is one security challenge that threatens our educational system in Nigeria today. The memory of the Chibok girls is still fresh. Children cannot go to school in all the states of the federation. The current security situation has not changed. There don’t seem to be any solution to this security challenge in Nigeria today. All efforts have proven abortive.

Kidnappers do not know the implication of this security challenge to Nigeria. It has always been said that no nation can rise above its educational system. So, kidnappers in this country are saying that Nigeria should not develop. JAMB form

8. Republics Agitation

The amalgamation of 1914 declared Nigeria an indivisible state. Today, some Nigerians are saying that the amalgamation was a mistake. They say the country should be divided. The east is agitating for the Biafra Republic; the west is agitating for the Oduduwa Republic.

One thing that these agitators fail to realize is the strength in oneness. God so blessed this country. Its oneness fosters a better standard of living than its divisibility. See oil in Niger Delta. See cocoa in the West and see palm oil in the East. Some crops like onions that grow well in the North don’t grow so well in the East.

Another implication of this security challenge in Nigeria today is the visa. We will need a visa to travel from one country to another.  Asaba is so close to Onitsha. But, a person travelling from Asaba to Onitsha will need a visa. Pounds to Naira

9. Terrorism

Apart from Boko Haram that is well known as a terrorist group in Nigeria today, there are other groups. Among them are Islamic State West Africa and Ansaru. These terrorist groups prevent outsiders from visiting Nigeria. This is one of the reasons we don’t have foreign investors in Nigeria today.

While terrorism is worldwide, terrorism in Nigeria has serious implications of security challenges. A situation where foreigners cannot invest in the country is of great concern.

Some of the kidnappings that are experienced in the country today are carried out by these terrorist groups. The same thing goes for some of the killings done in the country. Nigerians are faced with great security challenges in this wise.

One problem here is that these terrorist groups have more sophisticated weapons than the armed forces in Nigeria. This makes the combat to be very difficult for our armed men.

10. Ethnicity

Of all the security challenges that Nigeria has, I judge this one the greatest. That people are agitating for republics in Nigeria today is due to ethnicity.

To worsen the situation, Nigeria has more than 250 ethnic groups. Among them are the three giants: the Yorubas, the Hausa Kanuris and the Igbos. Now, the Yorubas want the Oduduwa Republic, the Igbos want the Biafra Republic, leaving the Hausa Kanuris to be Nigeria. Other minor ethnic groups will then share themselves among these major ones.

The great security challenge posed by ethnicity in Nigeria today is highest during elections. Nigerians hardly speak one language at the time of elections. Voting is not done according to the best person who can rule this country but according to who is my person from my tribe. This is why we are suffering today in this country.

To the Igbos, they are highly marginalized and cheated in that none of them had ruled this country since after the civil war.

In conclusion, the security of people and properties is not what the government can manage alone. All of us are being challenged and we must all rise to the challenge. JAMB Result
