14 people are reported to have died as a result of flooding in various towns throughout the state, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency.

Ahmed Inga, the agency’s director general, issued a statement on Monday identifying the localities where the people were killed as Magama, Kontagora, Agwara, Rafi, Lavun, Bosso, and Paikoro. According to him, the warning was necessary after the Nigerian Hydrological Services ordered residents near the River Niger in the states of Kwara, Niger, and Kogi to migrate.

As a result of water being released from the state’s Kainji and Jeba hydro dams, Inga continued, the agency had issued the warning.
