He then signed for the Premier League side in a £28.85million deal, before then joining PSG. It is understood Herrera will arrive at Bilbao as a free agent and sign until 2024, with the option of a further year.
A move will also see Herrera link back up with coach Ernesto Valverde, who was in charge at the club during the ex-PSG players’ final year, before his move to Manchester United. Herrera was keen to see out his contract at the Parc des Princes, but the club needed to offload some of their fringe players. The midfielder has not been involved in PSG’s opening matches of the Ligue 1 season.
Negotiations over the compensation he will receive for forfeiting the final two years of his PSG deal have since taken place.
Herrera, who will not be Bilbao’s highest earner, will scrap 40 per cent of his money so that the Spanish side do not need to pay a fee to PSG. In his first spell at Bilbao, he joined the club from Real Zaragoza and made 128 appearances in three seasons, whilst netting on 11 occasions.JAMB Result
