He was born on the 18th of October 1985 in Lagos island to his parents Chief Ibukun Olufunto and Mrs Omolara Oluwayemisi Ojosipe as the first child of two children.

He began his early education at the staff nursery and primary school, Ijanikin Lagos; his secondary education was at Federal Government College Ijanikin then he had his higher education at University of Lagos where he bagged a degree in Curriculum studies.

Wande Coal’s Music Career

Like many other Nigerian music artists Wande Coal began singing as a teenager in his church choir but got into the entertainment industry as a dancer before connecting with Don Jazzy who attended school with him at Federal Government College Ijanikin, Lagos.

Don Jazzy has mentioned that they were secondary school buddies and Wande Coal’s mother, Mrs Ojosipe was his economic teacher back in college.

It was Don Jazzy who signed him into the defunct MO Hits Records in 2006. While at Mo Hits, he actively took part in the record productions, he was featured in D’Banj’s single “Loke Loke”, “Torisibe” and “why me”.

He also played a very useful role in the Mo Hits all stars album which was titled “Curriculum Vitae” (CV), then he released his debut album “Mushin 2 Mo Hits” in 2009.

The album rocked the entire Nigeria and was a massive success even in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

In 2012, Mo Hits records suffered a major fued as the label executives Don Jazzy and D’Banj fell out beyond amicable settlement, Mo Hits collapsed and Don Jazzy regrouped with old members and Tiwa Savage as a new signee (excluding D’Banj ) to birth a new label “Mavin Records”.

Crises did not stop rocking the group as another feud occurred in 2013 and this time Wande Coal quit but the label gained new members like Di’ja, Rekaado Banks and Korode Bello.

Wande Coal launched his own label “Black Diamond Entertainment” in 2013 under which he released a single titled “Baby Face” in that same year.

The single further generated issues between him and his former label boss Don Jazzy who insisted that the song ought not to be released solely under Wande Coal’s new label as Mavin Records worked on it before the split occurred, he mentioned that it was a breach of intellectual property law if the single was released solely as Wande Coal’s property.

He also cleared the air in regards to their split, by stating that the departure of the black diamond from Mavin dynasty was as a result of irredeemable differences and inalignment of vision with no considerable solution at hand. In 2015, the black diamond released a seven tracked album which was his second studio album titled “Wanted”.

He has recently released two massive singles “Ballerz” and Isakaba” which is currently hitting air waves on Nigerian radio stations, with Isakaba as DJ favorite and a compulsory hit at parties and clubs.

Isakaba is an afro beat sound that featured DJ Neptune, the single has been so successful that a video had to be shot for it.

Fans who missed the versality, originality and creativity of the black diamond have been really excited to have been back on the scene.

Wande Coal has featured very many artists starting with artists from the defunct MO Hits records to Mavin Record artists and many others in the industry that include Phyno and Harry Song.

In 2015, the singer parted ways with his former management team led by Oluwaseun Abisagboola and signed a new management deal in 2016 with the Upfront and Personal bookings and management agency, an agency led by business guru Paul Okoye.

Wande Coal is currently being managed by renowned artist manager and music business consultant, Godwin Tom who has successfully managed M.I Abaga, Waje Iruobe, Show dem camp, youngsix, Beverly Naya ( Nolly wood actress) and Jumbo. The singer has been touring the world with his music of recent with the title Isakaba World Tour.

He is also an ambassador for Dbanj’s C.R.E.A.M platform, a platform for the identification and development of creativity, reality, entertainment and music.
