Problems and Challenges of EFCC in Nigeria

1. Our Political System

The greatest challenge of EFCC is our political system. The Nigerian political system is that which allows corruption to thrive.

To start with, many of our political leaders buy themselves into the position of leadership. They believe that nobody would vote them in unless they give voters money. Readily, the voters themselves accept such money without question. NPower Transition 2023 for Beneficiaries | Registration Guide and How to Participate

While vote buying is an economic crime, EFCC finds it difficult to deal with these vote buyers. By the time these leaders buy themselves in, they continue with corruption in their offices in a bid to recover their money.

The result is embezzlement and money laundering with cases of misappropriation of funds. This is the reason Nigeria remains underdeveloped despite EFCC.10 Problems and Challenges of EFCC in Nigeria

2. Corrupt Police Force

Corrupt Police Force is a problem for EFCC. Fighting economic and financial crimes is fighting corruption in its entirety. Now, there is no how EFCC can fight corruption without using the police because it needs the police in arresting financial criminals.

Disappointingly, the police that EFCC needs in arresting these financial criminals are also financial criminals. How can a criminal now arrest his fellow criminal? Those the police arrest would give the police money and go free.

The news had it that a handcuffed man escaped from police custody, how? The answer is due to corruption in the Nigeria Police Force. This is why EFCC is finding it difficult in its fight against financial crimes in Nigeria.

3. Corrupt Lawyers

Corrupt lawyers are a challenge to EFCC. The major tool that EFCC uses in its fight against economic and financial crimes is prosecution. In prosecuting economic and financial criminals, lawyers must be involved.

On the contrary, most of our lawyers in Nigeria are corrupt. After they have received bribes from offenders, they would begin to use delay tactics until EFCC would become tired of the case. The result is freedom for the offender hence EFCC cannot succeed in Nigeria.

4. Corrupt Judicial System

The corrupt judicial system is another challenge that is before EFCC. There is no how the EFCC can deal with economic and financial offenders without prosecuting them in the law court. Now, these corrupt offenders are going to meet corrupt judges, what do you expect of the case?

It is for this reason that EFCC is finding it difficult to succeed in Nigeria. Corrupt people surround EFCC. Thus, while EFCC fights corruption, corruption fights it back. Arguably, corruption fights EFCC harder than EFCC fights it. 20 Best Airpods in Nigeria and their prices

We can only encourage EFCC not to relent in its fight against economic and financial criminals. If it fights against ten offenders, it may win one. As for that, it has helped Nigeria to recover billions of naira in the past. If it continues, it may recover more. NYSC Portal

5. Lack of Electronic Evidence

One big challenge that EFCC has is the fact that electronic evidence is not supported in our court of law. This poses a very serious problem for EFCC.

It is a problem because most financial crimes nowadays are committed electronically. As long as the courts would not admit any electronic presentation as evidence, EFCC would continue to find it difficult to fight financial crimes in Nigeria.

6. Lack of Corruption Hunters

The lack of corruption hunters poses a problem for EFCC. The truth is that EFCC cannot fight corruption alone in Nigeria. Worst of all, many Nigerians are not ready to fight corruption.

Many Yahoo Boys commit financial crimes unmolested. Nigerian society celebrates people whose sources of wealth they do not know. These people ought to report to EFCC but who does that?

EFCC can only fight the crime that it knows about. Except other Nigerians are ready to fight economic and financial crimes with EFCC, EFCC would continue to find it difficult in fighting alone. The lack of corruption hunters is a reason for EFCC’s failure to fight financial crimes in Nigeria.

7. Discrimination

EFCC poses a challenge for itself. It does this by allowing incumbent governments to interfere with its activities. To many Nigerians, EFCC only fights against those who go against the government. Thus, they see EFCC as being selective in its pursuit of financial criminals.

It is such discrimination that makes some Nigerians frown at EFCC. The purpose of EFCC is to fight economic and financial crimes in Nigeria. EFCC ought to do this without discrimination.

What we expect of EFCC is fighting against all that commit economic and financial crimes. It does not matter where the person comes from. It does not also matter the type of person such a financial crime is. As far as the crime committed is a financial crime, the person is a culprit that has fallen into the trap of EFCC.

8. Inadequate Funding

Inadequate funding is a problem for EFCC. There is no how EFCC can fight financial crimes successfully without adequate funds. For EFCC to work effectively, it needs to employ qualified staffs who are ready to fight with the commission. A situation where the commission cannot pay its staff is incapacitating.

EFCC needs money for many things. Where it fails to meet its needs, then it means that it cannot carry out its functions. This is very disappointing. 105 Good morning My Love Messages

In addition, staff members of EFCC need good pay because they are dealing with money. Good pay can motivate them. Being left without salaries can lure them into stealing the money they recover. Thus, they deserve good welfare and equipment. 200 Romantic Love Messages for her

9. Lack of Bank Support

Nigerian banks not supporting and not working with EFCC is a challenge to EFCC. All the money that economic and financial criminals steal is deposited into bank accounts. These banks would not want to disclose how much money account holders have in their accounts.

When the banks are ready to fight crime with EFCC, they should alert EFCC when someone’s account is rising daily. The question then would be what the person is doing to earn such an amount. Thus, the lack of bank support for the EFCC is a problem for EFCC.

10. Corrupt EFCC Members

There is no gain in saying the fact that most Nigerians are corrupt. It is known all over the world that Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. It is for this reason that the Federal Government set up EFCC to fight against corrupt Nigerians.

Unfortunately, these corrupt Nigerians are members of the EFCC. How then can they fight corruption? Invariably, EFCC fights against itself. Such a fight must be a difficult one.

Whatever happens, since not all EFCC members can be said to be corrupt, it behooves those who are not corrupt to fight against those who are corrupt. The fight against all economic and financial crimes must be inclusive. It only takes courage. Jamb portal

One thing is very clear. Allowing corruption to be in Nigeria is killing Nigeria. Nothing can make Nigeria become a developed country in corruption. Think of how much corruption costs Nigeria yearly. Why then will we not allow EFCC to succeed?

Conclusion

EFCC is fighting for our good. Therefore, creating problems for EFCC is creating problems for us. If Nigeria becomes good, it would be good for you and me. We then have to help EFCC to succeed in its fight against economic and financial criminals in Nigeria.
