Oyo workers block secretariat gate, ask palliatives

In the early hours of Monday, hundreds of civil servants in Oyo blocked the gate to the state government secretariat. DAILY POST reports.

The secretariat houses the governor’s office, government ministries, agencies and departments in the state.

The workers blocked the entrance into the state’s powerhouse to demand an audience with Governor Seyi Makinde over issues affecting their service to the state.

The workers are demanding palliatives, upward review of pension allowances, and payment of salary deduction, amongst others.

Workers from various trade unions in the state, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and their affiliate bodies were all present at the rally.Information Guide Nigeria

The workers are also demanding payment of leave bonuses, gratuities to retirees that have stagnated since 2021, and the release of promotion letters for the years 2021 and 2022.

No official of the Oyo State government has addressed the protesting workers at the time of filling this report on Monday.
