About IELTS

IELTS”is an abbreviation for the International English Language Testing System. It is an international standard test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. The organization is jointly managed by the British Council, Cambridge Assessment English and IDP: IELTS Australia and was established in the year 1989.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is regarded globally as the best or one of the major English-language tests in the world as at now. The test is mainly paper or computer-based. IELTS is the only secure English Language test approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for visa customers applying both outside and inside the UK. It also meets requirements for Immigration to Australia, where Test of English as a foreigner (TOEFL) and Pearson Test of English Academic are also accepted.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test has no minimum score required to pass the test. An IELTS result or Test Report Form is issued to all test candidates with a score from “band 1” (“non-user”) to“band 9” (“expert user”) and each institution sets a different threshold. IELTS also provide “band 0” score to those who did not attempt the test but fully registers for the test.

Late Registration


Please contact the Test Center by info@ielts.ng or 09023201067 for the possibility of late registration at no extra cost. Late registration is however subject to availability and receipt of full test fee.

How to Reschedule or Cancel “IELTS” Test Date

Do you wish to cancel or reschedule your test date for the IELTS exam?

The International English Language Testing System,(IELTS) body made it possible for individuals who registered for the paper or computer-based test to cancel or reschedule their exam date at least 5 weeks before the exam date.

You can make this request officially to the IELTS board by sending a mail to their support or perhaps you visit their branch in Nigeria.

NOTE: MOB IDP does not accept telephone cancellation or postponement as that is not an official method.

Also, note that for; airtel data plan

  • Cancellation of exam more than 5 weeks of exam date, you only receive a full refund (less 25% administration fee). In essence, if you pay NGN80,000 for the exam, you will get a refund of NGN60,000.
  • Cancellation of exam less than 5 weeks of test date will receive zero (NO refund).
  • Failure to appear for the test without notification is considered as cancellation and there will be no refund for defaulters.

Candidates seeking cancellation or transfer within 5 weeks of the test date due to serious illness/accident/injuries (minor flu, sickness, or cold excluded) can contact IELTS board 5 days before the exam date for advice.

This term is applicable only if the candidate can provide evidence of the following;

  • Serious Illness – hospital admission or serious injury
  • Loss or bereavement – death of a close family member
  • Hardship/Trauma – Victim of crime, victim of traffic accident
  • Military service pass

Candidates eligible are to complete the “Request for Refund form” or “Test day Transfer Form”and must attach all required documents and/or evidence; such as medical certificate from a qualified medical personnel/practitioner, a death notice or certificate or police report.

Note: All incomplete applications will be placed on hold for a maximum period of 48 hours. If registration is not complete within this period, the applicant would need to initiate a fresh application.

Login to the Standard IELTS Online Registration Portal and complete registration.

  • Click on “Pay Online” gotv payment

  • Click on “Continue” on the checkout page and you will be redirected to the SeerBit Payment Platform.

  • Fill in the personal information required and click “Continue”

  • Select the “Pay with Card” option.

  • Fill in Debit Card details – Card number, Expiry date and Customer Verification Value (CVV) and select “Continue”.

  • Fill in card PIN and “One Time Password” (OTP) to complete payment.

  • Payment confirmation will be sent instantly. You will be redirected to the Online Registration Portal for booking confirmation.

How to pay for IELTS in Nigeria with your Bank account

This option allows test-takers to receive instant payment confirmation within the online registration portal via First Bank, GT Bank, Zenith Bank, Sterling Bank or United Bank for Africa (UBA).

Kindly follow the steps below for this payment method:

  • Complete registration on the Online Registration Portal.
  • Click on ‘Pay Online”
  • Click on “Continue” on the checkout page and you will be redirected to the SeerBit Payment Platform
  • Fill in the personal information required and click “Continue”
  • Select “Pay by Bank Account” option
  • Fill in Bank Account Number and select “Continue”.
  • GT Bank and First Bank Account holders will be redirected to the bank’s internet banking platform to complete the transaction. (You will be required to use a token to complete the transaction)
  • UBA Account holders will fill in One Time Password (OTP) and complete payment.
  • Payment confirmation will be sent instantly.
  • You will be redirected to the Online Registration Portal for booking confirmation.

How to pay for IELTS in Nigeria Using Bank Transfer or Bank Draft

This option allows candidates to make payments by bank transfer or bank draft.

Bank Transfer: Payment can be made using the account number below ending with the last 7 digits of your IELTS reference number.

Account Name: British Council Trading Services (Nigeria) Limited.

Example: If the IELTS reference number is A3-NG050-S-2267076, the account number to use will be 9962267076

Note:

In the remark/comment field on the payment platform, enter the candidate name e.g Abanga Chinenye

Please send the following to ngielts.payment@britishcouncil.org immediately after payment:

  • Evidence of payment (summary slip or transfer receipt)
  • Reference number
  • Candidate full name
  • Account holder’s name

It is important to enter the correct IELTS reference number as the account number to prevent delays with tracking payment.

Confirmation of payment will be sent within 5 working days, otherwise contact any of the British Council offices in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt or Kano for resolution.
