Chelsea chief Todd Boehly has shot himself in the foot with January transfer plans

According to the report from express.co, Chelsea chief Todd Boehly is said to be chasing Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres as the Blues look to solve their goalscoring woes. But the Premier League giants have reportedly had a £73million bid for the ex-Coventry striker rejected.

And Boehly has shot himself in the foot because his propensity to shell out mega transfer fees during his time in charge of Chelsea means that rival clubs are digging their heels in with their demands when it comes to undertaking transfer business with the Blues.informationguidenigeria

Boehly has shelled out over £1billion since buying Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in May 2022. The American spent £107million to prise Enzo Fernandez away from Benfica a year ago and then agreed a deal to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton for a fee that could rise to £115m.

Boehly has also spent £75m on Wesley Fofana from Leicester and up to £89m for Mykhaylo Mudryk, who joined the Blues from Shakhtar Donetsk. Meanwhile, the likes of Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku have all cost at least £50m.NYSC Portal

It didn’t take long for clubs to latch on to the fact Boehly is willing to dig deep into his pockets to get the players he wants. And the west London outfit are now being held to ransom as a result.JAMB Result

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Chelsea’s £73m bid for Gyokeres wasn’t enough for Sporting to sanction his exit. And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Portuguese club will only allow the striker to move on if Chelsea trigger his £86m release clause.JAMB Portal

The transfer fee is even more incredible given the fact Gyokeres was plying his trade for Coventry in the Championship last season and previously failed to make the grade at Brighton. The Sweden international netted 21 goals in England’s second tier during the last campaign and then secured a £17m move to Portugal.
