JAMB Takes Over Collection Of Registration Fee From CBT Centres To End Extortion

JAMB says it has taken over the collection of the N700 registration fee for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), from 2022. Information Guide Nigeria

According to THE NATION, JAMB revealed this in its weekly bulletin issued on Monday in Abuja.

THE NATION reports that JAMB said it would collect the approved N700 registration fee at the point of registration and remit the same to the various approved centres.

According to THE NATION, the board stated: “JAMB will as from the 2022 UTME exercise, be collecting the approved N700 registration fee on behalf of the various Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres along with its UTME registration fees.

“The board will then remit whatever is due to each registration centre to its bank account on a weekly basis or any timeframe acceptable to the centre owners.

“This laudable step was borne out of a painstaking review of the entire UTME registration process which has revealed some unethical and unacceptable practices by many CBT centres.

“It is to be noted that these centres were allowed to collect only N700 as registration charges, but some fraudulent centre owners misused that opportunity to engage in conduct unbecoming of respectable establishments.

“They indulge in massive extortion of candidates during the exercise.’’

JAMB revealed that it would make the registration process cashless to put a stop to extortion adding that the new process would not in any way increase the cost of UTME registration.

“With the new policy, candidates simply walk into any registration centre and register without paying any fee.“
