Terry and Smith worked together in 2021 at Villa Park before Terry left to pursue his own managerial career. His efforts have thus far been unsuccessful, and he has since reunited with Smith at relegation-threatened Leicester.
Since Lampard appears to have chosen against bringing in Terry to form part of his own backroom squad at Chelsea, he will be working alongside Craig Shakespeare, the former Foxes boss who replaced Claudio Ranieri at the club in 2019, as an assistant coach to Smith.
In a statement on Monday night, Leicester confirmed: “Dean’s appointment will see the return of Craig Shakespeare to the Leicester City dugout. An assistant under both Nigel Pearson and Claudio Ranieri in previous spells with the Foxes, Craig himself led the Club in 2017, successfully seeing off the threat of relegation and leading us to a UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final.NYSC Portal
“Dean’s coaching line-up will also include former England captain John Terry, who served under Dean’s management as a coach at Aston Villa, along with City’s current First Team Coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell.”
Lampard has been named interim manager till the end of the season after Todd Boehly abruptly fired Graham Potter after only six months in charge.
Some fans have called for legendary former captain Terry to return to the club and help Lampard steady the ship after a turbulent season at Stamford Bridge, where the club’s all-time leading scorer has brought back Ashley Cole, Joe Edwards, and Chris Jones as assistant coaches for his temporary spell.

But the 42-year-old fired back on Twitter, calling the idea “nonsense.”
