Types of Kenya Visa

The following are different categories of Kenya visas according to the travel plans of the applicant. These include:

1. Single or Ordinary Entry Visa

This category of visa is issued to individuals who need visas to enter Kenya either for business, tourism or medical treatment.

The single or ordinary entry visa is valid for only three months, after which you will need to reapply for another visa.

The stay period for this type of visa is 90 days; and after the 90 days are expired you will need to renew it for another 90 days at the immigration headquarters in Nairobi.

2. Transit Visa

This category of visa is issued to persons who intend to travel through Kenya to another location for a period not exceeding 72 hours (3 days).

3. Courtesy Visa

Courtesy visa is given to service passport holders and diplomatic officials who travel to Kenya for official duties, or who transit through Kenya to a third country for official business or duties. The visa is granted free of charge to individuals who need it.

4. Multiple Journeys Visa

This is given to persons who have to make frequent visits to Kenya for some important reason(s). The multiple journeys visa is valid for six months to one year.

5. Kenya Visa Requirements

Coming into Kenya depends on the credibility of your visa documents; and your purpose of traveling needs to be made known.

Immigrants who are banned from entering Kenya are persons who fail to obey the instruction of the immigrations ACT to undergo medical tests, individuals with serious health challenges, and ex-convicts or persons whose entry into Kenya pose a threat to the inhabitants of the country.

Qualified persons would need the following documents:

a. A valid Nigerian passport, with a validity of at least six (6) months and at least a free page for the visa stamp.

b. Photocopies of the Nigerian Passport clearly displaying the applicant’s passport number, picture and bio-data pages.

c. A properly filled and signed Form 22 – the Kenyan application visa form.

d. Two (2) recently taken passport size photographs of the applicant

e. Visa Processing fees.

f. Proof of financial ability

g. Proof of vaccination against Yellow Fever and Cholera.

h. Letter of Introduction

i. Marriage certificate

j. Children birth certificate (if any)

k. Six-months bank statement

l. Proof of ownership

m. Family pictures

n. Tax clearance

Step-by-step guide to Apply for Kenya Visa

Step 1: Visit www.ecitizen.go.ke and click register.

Step 2: Create an account as a visitor by clicking on e-Visa visitor.

Step 3: Create a visitor account and fill all your information correctly

Step 4: Confirm your email and continue application.

Step 5: Select Department of Immigration services and submit.

Step 6: Select the type of visa you want and fill the application form properly.

Step 7: Use your Master card, Visa card, or any other credit/debit card to pay your visa fee online.

Step 8: An approval mail will be sent to you; ensure that you download and print the e-Visa from your account.

Step 9: Make sure you have both the hard copy and the soft copy of e-Visa to present it to immigration officers at the port of entry to Kenya.

Kenya Visa Processing Time

E-visa application processing can take from 2 to 7 working days depending on the type of Kenya visa you applied for.

Before stamped visas are granted, you will be required to show downloaded e-Visa at point of entry.
