And now, Leverkusen has taken action by dismissing Seoane and replacing him with Alonso in the wake of their 2-0 Champions League loss to Porto on Tuesday.

Simon Rolfes, the club’s sporting director, explained further on the reasons behind Seoane’s dismissal.

‘Gerardo Seoane has done good work for Bayer 04 over the past one and a half years, above all with the outstanding qualification for the Champions League,’ he said.
