“If he has to make this big step now, that’s the question. “It is not so wise I think (to move to United). He has to play.”
Van Gaal previously warned Ten Hag that he should reject interest from Manchester United as they are a “commercial club” rather than a “football club”. The 70-year-old Netherlands coach managed Manchester United during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns.
Van Gaal said in March: “Erik ten Hag is a great coach, and that is always good for Manchester United. But Manchester United are a commercial club, so it’s a difficult choice for a coach. He’d better go to a football club.
“I’m not going to advise him, he’ll call me himself. But he must choose a football club and not a commercial club.”
Ten Hag did not follow Van Gaal’s advice as he signed an initial three-year deal at Manchester United in April.JAMB Result
