Manchester City has announced the purchase of Portuguese international center-back Ruben Dias on a six-year deal from Benfica on Tuesday. According to Benfica, they confirmed that they had reached an agreement to sell Dias for sixty-eight million euros plus an extra 3.6 million euros in potential bonuses. Nicolas Otamendi was heading in the opposite direction for fifteen million euros.
The transfer’s announcement means that Manchester City has now spent over four hundred and fifty million euros on defenders since Pep Guardiola arrived in 2016. Dias said that to have a chance to join a team like Manchester City is a perfect opportunity for him, and he could not turn down the option.
Dias added that the success of Manchester city speaks for itself. The team has dominated for a long time in the English premier league over the last few years, whereby the team has been playing an attacking brand of football, which he feels suits his own game.
Dias is excited to be a part of the talented squad, and to play under a world-class manager is such a privilege. According to the player, Pep Guardiola has a track record of developing young players like him.
Comparing Manchester City to Other English Premier League clubs, Dias believes he can improve in the club as it matches his ambitions. He is also willing to give everything to be successful and win titles, making him worth a wager at Betway when betting on individual players.
According to Benfica coach Jorge Jesus, selling Dias was necessary for the club to balance their accounts. Their loss against the Greek side, PAOK in the third qualifying round of the Champions League also influenced their decision, after shuttering their hopes of reaching the group stages.
Dias signing becomes the third signing of the summer for Manchester city after bringing back in center-back Nathan Ake from Bournemouth and Spanish winger Ferran Torres.
The need for strengthening Manchester City’s defense came after suffering a humiliating loss to Leicester City on Sunday. That was the first time a Guardiola side has ever conceded five goals in his distinguished career, to the dismay of many punters at Betway and other sportsbooks.
Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain said that Ruben is a player they had admired for some time, and his progress at Benfica has been very impressive.
The city director of football added that the player had developed into a real reader, and as a defender, they have all the attributes required by Manchester City. He is stable in the air, right in one – v one situations, and technically he is outstanding. Dias joining boosts the confidence of the team.
Otamendi won several major honors during his time at Etihad. That includes two premier league titles and more than two hundred appearances in all competitive seasons.
The Argentinian international has previously played for Portugal, turning out for Benfica’s bitter rival Porto between 2010 and 2014. Manchester city manager pep Guardiola is just hoping that Ruben Dias is the right man to fix his weak defense after the team lost 5-0 to Leicester, mostly if he was only their second choice.
