The following are the steps to use Google’s find my device.

Step 1 – The first step in using Google’s Find My Device is to first of all log in with the Google account of your Android mobile phone on the Find My Device app, or on the Find My Device website.

Step 2 – When logged in, you’ll be shown a dashboard that would allow you to track the Android device you want to track, as long as the device is active and connected to the internet.

Through Google’s Find My Device, you can Ring the device – play sound on the stolen device for as long as you want, even if the device is silent; Secure the device – Remotely lock the phone with a new password/pin, as well as display a recovery message on the screen; And, Erase the device – Wipe all data and information on the stolen device.

Also, the phone model, last time it was online, battery percentage, as well as an embedded map where you can pinpoint the exact location of the device will be displayed.

However, if the stolen device has already been remotely erased/wiped before you use Find My Device, the device will not be located on the dashboard.

2. How to track a missing iOS device like the iPhone.

Apple has also thoughtfully provided a service similar to Android’s Find My Device for devices that run on its iOS operating software. The service is called Find My iPhone.

Similar to Android’s, you can track your iOS device, lock it, and erase your device with the Find My iPhone service.

However, the iOS device must be turned on for this service to work. If your device has been turned off, you can choose to receive a notification once it is turned on by clicking on the Notify Me option provided on Find My iPhone.

Like on Android, this service will only work if your Icloud account is active.

3. How to track a missing Microsoft device

Like Google and Apple, Microsoft has also provided a way to track missing Microsoft devices.

Their service is also similar to that of Google and apple.

To track your Microsoft device, simply go to Accounts.microsoft.com/devices to track, erase, or lock your device.

4. Other application for tracking missing Mobile devices.

There are also a plethora of mobile apps available to help you track your missing mobile device.

One of which is the Andriod lost app. It has the same features as all other mobile tracking apps/services earlier mentioned and also takes pictures.

You can also check on your phone through a text message with this utility. Another useful app for tracking a mobile device is LocateMyAndriod.

This app is relatively small, although it posses all the standard tracking features. It also has the option of sending a GPS flare – a text with an attention word, and a notification if your sim card has been changed.

5. Tracking your mobile device using imei.

IMEI is an acronym that stands for international mobile equipment identity. It is a 15-digit number that can be used to track the mobile device it is found on.

IMEI can be found on the phone pack of a new phone, in the battery compartment, or can be gotten by dialing *#06# on the mobile device. Each time a phone call is made, tr a text message is sent through a network service provider, the IMEI is sent to the network base station by phone. This is what makes it possible to track a mobile device using IMEI.

However, using IMEI to track mobile devices usually requires the use of sophisticated software which is only found in the hands of law enforcement agencies like the police.

When your mobile device goes missing, and you do not have any of the tracking apps installed, it is advisable you track the device using IMEI.

Therefore, it is important that you carefully note down the IMEI number of your device somewhere. Once your device goes missing, quickly report to the nearest law enforcement agencies with your IMEI number to enable them to track it.

You should also call your mobile network service provider to have your sim card blacklisted till your device is found when you can whitelist it again.

6. Backing up your mobile phone content.

It is also important to back up your mobile content on external storage space, whether offline or online. A laptop or a flash drive is a good example of offline external storage space, while Google drive can come in quite handy as an offline storage space for Android users.

Do not wait till your device gets missing before you worry about the sensitive and important information on your device. Backing up your device content gives you even more security than mobile tracking software.
