Crystal Palace vs. Southampton

Having returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, Crystal Palace prepare to welcome Southampton to Selhurst Park on Wednesday in the Premier League. infoguidenigeria

The Eagles soared to a 3-1 success over Everton last time out, while the Saints went down 3-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Conor Gallagher continues to shine at Selhurst Park as he netted his fifth and six league goals of the season either side of James Tomkins’s finish, with Salomon Rondon’s strike proving to be nothing more than a mere consolation in the capital.

Gallagher’s second strike epitomised that of a man who could not be enjoying his football anymore, and Vieira’s side now find themselves 12th in the rankings after ending their three-game losing run and four-game winless streak at the weekend.

The 3-1 win over Everton did represent a fifth game on the bounce without a clean sheet for the Eagles, but it is at the other end of the pitch where they have excelled at Selhurst Park this term.

Indeed, Vieira’s charges have scored in each of their last seven home games in the top flight since being held to a goalless draw against Brentford back in August, and only one of their eight Premier League encounters at Selhurst Park this term has ended in defeat.

Team news:

Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen has a slim chance of returning to the fold after taking part in training last week, but Nathan Ferguson and James McArthur are set to remain sidelined.

Even if Andersen is deemed fit to play a part, Tomkins will not cede his place easily, and the same can be said for Will Hughes after an impressive debut in the middle of the park.

However, it would not be surprising to see Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Christian Benteke come into contention for starts amid the hectic festive schedule.

As for Southampton, Hasenhuttl is facing quite the injury crisis up top after Adam Armstrong and Armando Broja came off in the Arsenal defeat, joining Che Adams on the sidelines.

Shane Long and Theo Walcott could therefore form an emergency strike pairing at Selhurst Park, where Mohamed Salisu and Oriol Romeu will make timely returns from suspensions.

Stuart Armstrong, Fraser Forster, and Alex McCarthy complete the list of absentees for the visitors, as 40-year-old Willy Caballero prepares for another outing in goal.

Crystal Palace possible starting lineup:
Guaita; Ward, Tomkins, Guehi, Mitchell; Gallagher, Kouyate, Hughes; Olise, Benteke, Zaha

Southampton possible starting lineup:
Caballero; Livramento, Bednarek, Salisu, Walker-Peters; Redmond, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Tella; Long, Walcott

Prediction: Crystal Palace 2-0 Southampton

Arsenal vs. West Ham United

Two London sides harbouring ambitions of a top-four Premier League finish lock horns at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, as Arsenal play host to West Ham United.

The Gunners saw off Southampton 3-0 at the weekend, whereas David Moyes’s side were held to a goalless stalemate by Burnley.

For a short while, it appeared that Arsenal’s misery was set to continue as Southampton shone at the Emirates, but Mikel Arteta’s side proceeded to dominate on home soil once Alexandre Lacazette’s effort found its way into the top corner. Jamb result

Martin Odegaard scored for the third Premier League game in a row to put the Gunners 2-0 to the good before half time, and having been a rock at the back throughout the afternoon, Gabriel Magalhaes added his side’s third during a comfortable success.

Such a result slightly eased the pressure on Arteta’s shoulders as Arsenal returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, with that result seeing them move back above Tottenham Hotspur into sixth, but they are only one point clear of the Lilywhites having played two games more.

Only two points now separate the Gunners from fourth-placed West Ham ahead of this battle, and with Manchester United’s clash with Brentford supposedly in danger of being postponed, Arsenal could very well end the midweek round in the top four of the table.

It remains to be seen if the COVID-ravaged United squad will play in midweek, but Arsenal welcome West Ham to the Emirates as the league’s joint-best performers at home this term alongside Manchester City – winning each of their last four on home turf in all competitions without conceding once.

Team news:

Arsenal have announced that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been stripped of the club captaincy following his latest disciplinary breach and will not be available for the midweek contest.

As a result, Lacazette should have the chance to keep the momentum going from the weekend, while Emile Smith Rowe will eye a return to the leftover Gabriel Martinelli, who may feel that he does not deserve to drop out.

Out-of-favour duo Bernd Leno and Sead Kolasinac are the Gunners’ only injury concerns ahead of Wednesday’s game, with Arteta unlikely to ponder many changes this week.

As for West Ham, Aaron Cresswell may be able to return from a back problem on Wednesday, but Ben Johnson, Kurt Zouma, Ryan Fredericks, and Angelo Ogbonna all remain sidelined.

Issa Diop and Craig Dawson will continue in the heart of the Hammers’ depleted defence, while Pablo Fornals could return for Manuel Lanzini in the number 10 role.

Michail Antonio has a penchant for London derbies – scoring five goals and setting up six more in his last 11 such matches as he leads the line at the Emirates.

Arsenal possible starting lineup:
Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney; Xhaka, Partey; Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe; Lacazette

West Ham United possible starting lineup:
Fabianski; Coufal, Dawson, Diop, Masuaku; Rice, Soucek; Bowen, Fornals, Benrahma; Antonio

Prediction: Arsenal 2-1 West Ham United
