MTN set Empower Millions of Businesses to Embrace E-commerce
MTN which is regarded as Africa’s largest telecommunications provider says it is set to empower millions of businesses to embrace e-commerce in their markets by accepting digital payment from MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) consumers.
As reported by Business Day, this announcement was made by the Chief Digital and Fintech Officer of MTN, Serigne Dioum during a recent partnership with one of Africa’s payment technology companies, Flutterwave. Information Guides Nigeria
According to MTN, the new partnership will allow Flutterwave to offer MoMo as a method of payment to business customers in Zambia, Cote d’Ivoire, Rwanda, Uganda, and Cameroon.
MoMo provides businesses and customers with an electronic wallet to send and receive money, make payments, store money, and other transactions with the use of their mobile phones.
It is believed that the partnership between MTN and Flutterwave will positively contribute to the growth of mobile money usage and penetration in Africa and in return lead to an increase in local economies, create opportunities for businesses to grow in Africa, and generally improve livelihood.

The Founder and CEO of Flutterwave said that Africa has one of the highest growth rates for mobile money adoption and e-commerce in the world and the partnership will help provide a method of payment that will encourage African businesses to reap the full benefits of the e-commerce boom in the region.
Business Day reveals that with the fast emergence of mobile penetration in Africa, through the use of smartphones, the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSMA) says Africa will hit half a billion mark of unique mobile subscribers and the continent will reach 50 percent subscriber penetration by 2025.
