NCC Insist On Deadline For NIN-SIM Linkage 

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has insisted on October 31 as the deadline to link the National Identity Numbers (NIN) to the Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM).

VOICE OF NIGERIA reports that this information was disclosed in a statement by the NCC titled “NIN-SIM Integration: NCC sensitizes telecom consumers on October 31 Deadline”.

During its Digital Signature Radio Programme, the NCC emphasised that Nigerians without NIN will encounter difficulty in acquiring passports and driving licences and advised Nigerians to enroll with NIMC and link their NINs to their SIMs. Jamb Results

Speaking, the Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, told Nigerians to make use of the extension of the NIN-SIM integration exercise to October 31, 2021.

As reported by VOICE OF NIGERIA, Adinde said, “Soon, people without NIN will be denied necessary services that play vital roles in their lives, including acquisition of driving licence and passport”. Information Guide Nigeria

The benefits of this exercise according to Adinde include, enhancing citizens’ access to government services and enhancing national security.

VOICE OF NIGERIA reveals that the Regional Director of NIMC in Lagos, Funmi Opesanwo, who also spoke on the exercise pointed out that it will help in providing a means of verifying an individual’s identity and safeguarding both identity and mobile line.

The NCC’s Director of Consumer Affairs Bureau, Efosa Idehen, said that SIMs that have not been linked to NINs can remain untraceable if used to commit crimes.
