2 Policemen Arraigned in Court for Killing NSCDC Official

The officials of the Nigeria Police Force, who are traffic wardens, and whose names are Mr. Idoko Sunday and Mr. Katdel Dabit have been arraigned in court for allegedly killing one Mr. Ogar Jombo, who is a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,(NSCDC).

Jombo, who was an Assistant Superintendent of the NSCDC, was allegedly killed after being beaten by two policemen on March 20 in the presence of his wife and children for alleged violation of traffic rules at Nyanya, Abuja.

A statement issued by the Police Force spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba today Wednesday in Abuja,  said that investigations indicted the two policemen for assault and excessive use of force on the deceased after his arrest.

According to the PUNCH, the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, had ordered a comprehensive and speedy investigation into the death of Mr. Jombo.

Frank Mba said that their arraignment in the court was sequel to the outcome of investigation carried into the case of alleged discreditable conduct and unlawful exercise of authority as reported against the duo on March 20.

“The former traffic wardens had been subjected to the internal disciplinary procedures of the Force, tried in an orderly room and dismissed before the arraignment,” Mba said.

The police officer said that autopsy report clearly traced the cause of death to injuries inflicted on the deceased during his encounter with the traffic wardens.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the autopsy report states in part that the death was due to blunt force injury to the head, multiple skin and soft tissue injuries on the forehead and face, and that there was no natural disease in the body to sufficiently explain the sudden death,” he said.

According to Mba, the police deeply regret the unfortunate incident and enjoined the public not to lose faith in the force.

  1. I wish to appeal to all Nigerians, whether as a force man/woman or “bloody” civilian, politician or the ruled, etc, to respect one another, regard our lives as precious and refuse to kill anyone despite how much we are provoked. We should also know that God will hold us accountable for any live we take or waste.
