Minimum wage: NUT lauds Buhari, says Adamawa gov-elect will pay N32,000

The chairman of Nigerian Union of Teachers NUT, Adamawa state council, Mr Rodney Nathan, had lauded  President Muhammadu Buhari, for signing into law the N30,000 new National Minimum Wage for workers, however, noted that the state workers.

The union has expressed confidence that the incoming administration will pay N32,000 minimum wage to workers in the state. “Our governor-elect will pay us N32,000 as our minimum wage”, Adamawa NUT chairman said.

The Vanguard reports have it that, Nathan, has said that, the workers’ optimism was drawn from the Governor-elect, Ahmadu Fintiri’s electioneering promise to pay workers N32,000 minimum wage. He said that Fintiri, being a man of his words, would not renege on his promise.

He called on all teachers in the state to support the incoming administration in its vision to ameliorate the plight of teachers in particular and all workers in general. The union leadership, according to the report, urged the incoming administration to address some of the challenges faced by the teachers in the state.

He mentioned a lack of implementation of promotion, upgrade of teachers, transport leave grants, among others as some of the major challenges facing teachers in the state. New national

According to him, the new minimum wage would go a long way in improving the standards of living of a Nigerian worker, even as he also urged government at all levels to reinvigorate the civil service, to get the best out of the civil service.

The reports said that the NUT chairman decried redundancy occasioned by some government organisations, adding that such has killed development spirit of workers in such organisations. He urged workers in the state to put in their best to match the wage increase with productivity.
