Ondo poly workers protest non-payment of salaries

Staff members at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, Ondo State, organized a protest on Wednesday over the non-payment of their salaries and allowances for the past 10 months. The protest was spearheaded by members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), RUGIPO chapters.InformationGuideNigeria

During the demonstration, the aggrieved employees blocked the main entrance of the institution. Holding leaves and chanting various solidarity songs, they expressed their discontentment towards both the polytechnic’s administration and the state government. The SSANIP Chairman, Comrade Nafiu Okoro, spoke on behalf of the protesting staff, highlighting the grave impact of the irregular salary payments. He pointed out that these financial inconsistencies have led to the untimely deaths of several polytechnic workers. Okoro further emphasized that the institution’s management owed over 10 months’ worth of salaries to the workers.NYSC Portal
