  1. Provide Community Police

Community police are a necessity here because they know the terrain better than any other person does. One thing that has made banditry prevail in the north is the vast forest there. Strangers do not know the forest hinterland that members of the community know.

The major work of the community police is to spot where the bandits are residing. Once they discover their camps, they will now report to the police who will do the rest.

  1. Provide Jobs

Joblessness is one thing that is causing banditry in Nigeria. Bandits are able-bodied persons who can work. If they have something doing, they will quit banditry.Things to Buy for Engagement Party in Nigeria

Therefore, one solution to banditry in Nigeria is the provision of jobs. The governments and all capable Nigerians should create jobs for Nigerian youths. The Nigerian culture believes in working hard to earn a living. It is not in our culture to steal and kill others for a living.

  1. Address Corruption and Fraud

Corruption and fraudulent activities are things that are aiding banditry in Nigeria. All the tiers of government in Nigeria should address the issue of corruption and fraud properly if banditry is to stop in Nigeria.

  1. Address Poverty

Let the governments and wealthy Nigerians create poverty alleviation programmes. Let the government think of paying a token to the unemployed.

The poor steal. No one steals what he can buy. Bandits engage in banditry because they need money. It is for this reason that they kidnap people for ransom. Should they have such money free, they would not go into kidnapping. Let us then think of a way of giving them the money without kidnapping others.

The wealthy should learn their lesson here. They are the targets of bandits. If you look at what bandits are doing critically, you would see that they are trying to bring everybody to the same level of poverty. They only kidnap those who can give them millions. Instead of allowing them to reduce the high, let the high bring the low up. If we do this, banditry in Nigeria will stop.

  1. Tighten Security on our Borders

The security on our borders should be tightened. Let the government employ more people to operate our borders. The security agents should be well trained and well paid to prevent bribery.

Let the government give Nigerian valid ID cards for true identification. Anybody living in Nigeria without valid documents should be repatriated. Any Nigerian who crosses the border should be well monitored and checked when coming back to avoid coming into Nigeria with the unwanted. Well-trained security agents know what to do at the borders.

  1. Synergy among State Governors

The moment there is a banditry activity in any of the states; other state governors should tighten the security at their borders and help the affected state. This will prevent bandits from escaping to their states.

Take a lesson from the coronavirus. When it broke out in China, other countries did not care. They saw it as China affair. At least did they know that it will come to them. Today, the virus is all over the world. It goes to mean that the best way to live well in this world is to help one another.Npower Recruitment

  1. Address the Issue of Proliferation of Fire Arms

The law should always take its course on the issue of illegal possession of firearms. It is unacceptable for individuals to have sophisticated weapons that are made for the police and soldiers.

The police and soldiers should be well checked. When Anini Lawrence was operating as a bandit in the 1980s, it was later discovered that police officers were the ones supplying him with the arms and ammunition he was using. Thank God that the then Bendel state government charged them together with him. They all faced the same firing squad. The present governments should do the same.

  1. Provide Intelligence

The satellite that Nigeria launched, what is it being used for? In this computer age, everything is computerised. Let the federal government install powerful cameras that can pick up whoever is hiding in the forests. It is shameful that bandits can attack police stations without being seen before the attack.JAMB Form

Nigeria should come up with a world standard in technology. With modern technology, some crimes can be avoided. Therefore, the federal government should provide high-level intelligence in curbing banditry in Nigeria.

  1. Recruit more Police and equip them

The numbers of police officers we have are not enough for the Nigerian population. The federal government should maintain the United Nation’s standard of one police officer to four hundred and fifty citizens. This will help the police to do their jobs well.

  1. Capital Punishment for Criminals

There are crimes in Nigeria because Nigerian governments refuse to follow God in their dealings with criminals. God who created man knows that, as long as the devil is in this world, there will be criminals. Therefore, He prescribed the way to deal with them.JAMB Result

As far as God is concerned, capital punishment is necessary for criminals. To Him, people commit crimes because they are not punished quickly enough (Eccl. 8:11). The command of God is clear. “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man” (Gen. 9:6).

Bandits will continue in Nigeria as long as Nigerian governments are not ready to abide by the laws of God concerning criminals. In a society like Nigeria with millions of people, crime is inevitable. The only way to control the crimes that people commit is to punish offenders. Punishing them will teach others lessons. Man, by his nature will always want to avoid punishment. Avoiding punishment is avoiding crime.

Nigerian lawmakers should learn how to make laws that fit various crimes that people commit in Nigeria. The less the crime, the less the punishment should be. The more the crime, the more the punishment should also be. Killings are not negotiable. Killers should be killed.

Our judiciary should be ready for justice in Nigeria. This is not the time for corruption and fraud. It is not the time for receiving a bribe to pervert justice. It is the time to face facts and interpret the laws in the right way.

Once again, the Bible is clear about civil government. To God, He instituted civil governments as agents of “wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.”(Rom. 13:4). This means that punishment for a crime is not negotiable.WAEC Result

The government has negotiated with criminals enough in Nigeria. What remains now is fire for fire. If we want banditry to stop in Nigeria, this is a necessity.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we can stop banditry in Nigeria if we all stand for the truth. Let us treat an injury to one is injury to all of us and face banditry in Nigeria headlong.
