He commended the agency for keeping focused on the performance of its purpose and commitment to building capacity in the Nigerian maritime sector.

Sambo said, “NIMASA of today have come a long way from the NIMASA I knew 10 years ago. I commend the entire management and staff of the agency for raising the bar; it is a symbol of teamwork.

“I am impressed with the customer experience center and your efforts to attract young Nigerians into the maritime sector via various capacity development projects including the essay competition for secondary school students.”

Speaking on the Cabotage Vessel Financing Amount, the minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to collaborate with NIMASA to ensure that the fund is disbursed to qualified recipients.

He stated that it will increase shipping activities in the maritime sector of the country.

Dr. Bashir Jamoh, Director-General of NIMASA, praised the minister for his leadership in directing the ministry’s affairs.

He pledged the agency’s dedication to fulfilling its purpose as outlined in the four enabling Acts passed by the National Assembly for a healthy and alluring marine industry in Nigeria.

Jamoh briefed the minister on the agency’s efforts to realise a robust maritime sector, which include obtaining approval for physical and monetary incentives for ship owners to purchase brand new vessels duty-free and assisting them in obtaining foreign exchange at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s rate.

“We have created a plausible scenario for the impact of Brain Exports in the outsourcing market. Opportunities requiring low skill levels require a good command of the English language and communication skills. Mid-skill level opportunities may require a bit of talent and some training. Such training would be for a short period and are unlikely to be aptitude focused,” the report said.

“Highskill level opportunities, like programming and accounting, require structure and extensive training. Universities and professional institutes are examples of organisations that can provide this.”
