Nigeria to acquire new satellites to fight insurgency

Nigerian Army says Nigeria plans to acquire new satellites to help in fighting insurgency.

According to TheGuardian, through the platform invented by the Nigeria Communication Satellite (NigComSat), Nigeria has saved over N8 billion in capital flights and country is expected to acquire a new satellite for maximum coverage of the country. Information Guides Nigeria

Speaking in Lagos, at the Stakeholders’ Forum 2021, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, NigComSat, Dr. Abimbola Alale, who did not disclose the actual cost of acquiring a new satellite said that the country will acquire more satellite between now and 2025.

According to Alale, the acquisitions of new satellites will inspire confidence in customers and channel partners and will also place NigComSat Limited in the front line of communication satellite operators with a fleet of satellites in orbit.

Alale added that NigComSat has trained 600 youths across the six geo-political zones in the country, including Niger, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Ekiti, Lagos, Kano, Gombe, Bauchi, Plateau, Rivers, and Anambra.

TheGuardian reports that representing Corps Commandant, Army Signals, Brigadier O.Ojutaiye, informed that NigComSat has been providing satellite communication to the leadership of the force in the fight against insurgency.
