Nigerians should emulate late Okwaraji in serving the nation

Nigerians have been charged to take after the late Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji in serving the nation, Nigeria, stressing that, Okwaraji’s commitment to the Nigerian cause was exemplary as he was one player who never demanded refunds for his numerous flights to Nigeria each time he was called for national duties.

The Vanguard reports said that it was on August 12, 1989, when the Super Eagles defeated Angola 1-0 at the National Stadium Lagos in an AFCON qualifier. The victory was, however, overshadowed by what turned out to be the saddest day in the history of Nigeria football after dynamic midfielder, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji collapsed and died on the field, 10 minutes to the end of the match.

A former British and Commonwealth Light heavyweight boxing champion, Peter Oboh has charged sports administrators in the country not to forget Nigeria’s past heroes, while admonishing current sportsmen and women to emulate former stars like the late Okwaraji who sacrificed everything all for their fatherland.

Kahn to take on role at Bayern in 2020 – Hoeness Oboh said, “Most people are after what they can get from the country while the late Okwaraji was concerned with what he could contribute to his country, Nigeria, this young man never demanded for refund of monies he used to pay his way any time he was called upon for national duty, unlike most of his contemporaries.” he said

He also advised the government of country do everything to preserve the Sam Okwaraji statue, and mount same at the gate of the national stadium, Lagos by, especially Lagos State governor.
