NNDC Act does not Recognize Ethnicity as basis for Appointment: NDUC Tells Buhari

President Buhari has been called upon to ignore ethnic champions and inaugurate the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

According to a Civil Rights Group, Niger Delta United Congress (NUDC), the inauguration should have taken place immediately after the submission of the Commission’s forensic audit report which was submitted to the President last week. Information Guides Nigeria

In a release jointly signed by NDUC President, Ebizomor Brisibe, and Secretary, Edem Archibong, the group says:

“It is important to note that the subsisting NDDC Act does not recognise ethnicity as a basis for appointing its board. To project ethnicity is a call to disharmony and anarchy. The makers of the NDDC Act in their wisdom clearly avoided this path which can only lead to conflicts and hate in the States of the Niger Delta Region.”

The group emphasised that all indigenes of Local Governments in oil-producing states are eligible quoting the NDDC Act in Part 1, Section 2(1) B which requires a member of the NDDC Governing Board to come from an “Oil Producing Area”.

NDUC pointed out that it had declined calls by the ”Ethnic Champions” who have developed a reputation in the NDDC by perpetuating conflict among different tribes in the Niger Delta Region.

They further called on President Buhari, to implement the inauguration of the Senate-confirmed Board without further delay. JAMB Result
