Griezmann, 31, signed a two-year loan agreement with Atletico with an automatic purchase option of €40 million in the event that he played more than 45 minutes in 50% of the games for which he was available.

At one time, Barca threatened legal action against Atletico if they did not abide by the condition, which they said took effect after the first season of the loan.
In the 37 games he was available for in 2021—22, Griezmann played more than 45 minutes in 30 of them.
In an effort to lower the number of games in which Griezmann met the criteria, Atletico began to use Griezmann sparingly this season, bringing him on after the 60th minute in a string of matches.
One year after rejecting a move to Camp Nou at the conclusion of a documentary he had produced called The Decision, the France international joined Barca from Atletico in 2019 when the Catalan club met his €120 million release clause.
Although both clubs disputed it at the time, Barca would later pay Atletico an additional €15 million as compensation for approaching Griezmann when his release clause was still €200 million.
Instead, they asserted that the €15 million was a deposit that would allow Barca to have first dibs on Saul Niguez, Jose Gimenez, and three other Atletico Madrid academy players.
