Onyema Seeks Review Of Aviation Workers’ Salaries

Allen Onyema, Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace has called on the Nigerian Government to critically review the salaries of staff of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

According to Onyema, most of the technical staff were leaving the authority for other agencies, especially airlines where the pay is much compared to what NCAA is offering.

The Director-General made the request at the 2021 Brazil-Nigeria Aviation and Defence Trade Forum 2021 organised by the Embassy of Brazil in Abuja.

Onyema buttressed that there is a need for salary review in order for the aviation regulatory body to attract and retain the best workers with the needed experience and qualifications to discharge their responsibilities.

According to him, the organisation is not able to nurture good and qualified talents in the industry because its salary structure is low, adding that the Nigerian government should remove the NCAA from the civil service salary structure.

According to DAILY TRUST, in Onyema’s words: “Their salaries should be upwardly reviewed to match the airlines’ salary structure, as nobody wants to go there to work but they (current staff) are doing their best, which is very commendable. This is a patriotic call,” he said.
