WhatsApp introduces Call Links to invite up to 32 people to a group call

WhatsApp Messenger has unveiled a new feature known as Call Links. Users will be able to invite others to join a group call using this option.Infomation Guide Nigeria

To use it, go to the Calls tab in the app and look for the “Create Call Link” option at the top of the screen. Choose it, and WhatsApp will generate a link for you to send to others via chat in order to invite them to a group call. To accept the invitation, recipients must simply tap the Join call button. It’s useful if you forget to add someone to the call, or if a friend comes online during a call and wants to join in on the conversation.

There are currently only 8 participants in a video call using the app, but this is changing. Remember that the VOIP and instant messaging platform owned by Meta had previously disclosed in April of this year that it was aiming to include support for 32 person audio calls in its app. Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Meta, just announced in a post on his Facebook page that WhatsApp Call Links will enable up to 32 individuals per call.

Call links can be shared with persons who are not in your contacts; they are not just limited to group members who are already in the group. As a result, the new capability differs differently from the “Add Participant” menu item that may be found on the screen during an active voice conversation or video call.Jamb Result

The invite system is not limited to active calls, so you can opt to invite friends to a later meeting by sending them a link to a call, as shown in the screenshot above and confirmed by the business’s Twitter account. More information regarding the new function was withheld by the messaging platform, however Will Cathcart, Head of WhatsApp, stated that Call Links supports both audio and video conversations. Group calls are protected by encryption just like ordinary calls, but group calling is not enabled in WhatsApp Desktop, hence it is only supported on mobile devices.

According to TechCrunch, WhatsApp Call Links will expire after 90 days of inactivity, which is an extremely forgiving time frame. While call links are new to WhatsApp, they have been around for a while in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, and Google Meet. 100 people can join a Zoom call at a time, however the duration is capped to 40 minutes for free users. Similar in many ways, Google Meet has a 60-minute time limit for free users. As a free service, WhatsApp might not put a time cap on group calls, which might entice more users to the site.

WhatsApp Call Links are not yet accessible to users; Zuckerberg and Cathcart had previously stated that they will start rolling them out this week, perhaps through an app update.

Recently, WhatsApp released a native UWP version for Windows, and it is now developing a native client for macOS. You can leave groups without informing other members and erase messages two days after you send them using the messaging platform.
