Polio Outbreak: Adamawa Records New Cases
The Executive Director of the Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (APHDA), Dr. Sulaiman Bashir has revealed that there has been an outbreak of polio in the state.
Dr. Sulaiman Bashir revealed this while speaking at the 2021 World Polio Day in Yola, Adamawa State.
According to VOICE OF NIGERIA, Dr. Sulaiman Bashir stated that two local governments have recorded four new polio cases in the state adding that the agency has revealed that the outbreak is caused by the Circulating Vaccine Derived Polio Virus type 2 ( CVDPV). Jamb Result
Recall that about a year ago, the World Health Organization (WHO ) had declared Nigeria polio-free.

VOICE OF NIGERIA reports that Dr. Bashir said, “Although, 99.9 per cent of Polio has been wiped out with the oral polio vaccine. In rare cases when enough children are not reached, other forms of the virus will continue to circulate”.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Semeeh Omoleke said, “Together, with the dedication of frontline health workers, with engaged communities, national leadership, and the support of partners, we can ensure that vaccines reach every at-risk child by 2023 to protect them and future generations from all forms of polio”.
She added that the best way to tackle the situation is by increasing population immunity adding that this can be achieved through routine immunisation and ensuring strong surveillance systems are in place to detect any cases on time. Information Guide Nigeria
