The Controller, Nigeria Correctional Service in Lagos State, Mr Francis Adebisi, has said that prisoners involved in defilement of underage and other rape cases will not be considered for presidential pardon.
Adebisi disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday. PUNCH reports.
According to him, the Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy had commenced on the assessment of convicts in Lagos State for freedom under the Prerogative Mercy by President Muhammadu Buhari.
But he said that prisoners involved in rape cases, especially the defilement of underage, would not be permitted for presidential pardon.

According to THE PUNCH, in Adebisi’s words, “the pardon, however, will depend on whether the inmates under consideration will meet the criteria.
“The criteria include critical illness, old age, and more than 10 years in custody, among others.
“But any inmate involved in defilement or rape case will not be scrutinised or considered.”
