The Clarets will be the opposition for our final game of the calendar year when they are the visitors to Old Trafford for Thursday’s 20:15 GMT kick-off in the Premier League.

It will also be the first time we have played in front of a home crowd in over three weeks and therefore there is no doubt that Rashford and co will even more eager to send our fans into the new year with a win to toast.

As is often the case for footballers, particularly at this time of the year, there is little time to stop and reflect on what has gone by due to the busy nature of the schedule.

But as humans, this is conventionally a period in the calendar in which we think back to the things we’ve achieved and the challenges we’ve overcome in the last 12 months while setting goals for the new year ahead.

Marcus is no different in that sense and is grateful to have been able to put in regular minutes in a United shirt recently, following his return from a shoulder operation that he opted to have in the summer.

Our no.10 is now looking forward to kicking on as we head into the new year and is simply aiming to play as many minutes as he can for the Reds in 2022.

“I’m just buzzing to be back with the squad. That’s the first thing you miss when you’re out for a long time, it’s being with your team-mates and training every day and stuff like that,” Rashford says in an exclusive interview with club media.

“Then when you get to watch them on the weekend, that’s the exciting bit because you get to see them put into action what they’ve been working on all week.

“And if we get the win, it makes you even happier because you can’t be there with them, but it just makes you happy when you win the games.

“Then you start to build your recovery, you get closer and closer, and you just can’t wait to be back out there. I’m just looking forward to playing lots of games for the club again.”

A full recovery like Rashford’s is something that team-mate and currently injured midfielder Paul Pogba will no doubt be targeting himself in the new year.

Marcus reveals that comebacks has been a topic of conversation between the two recently, as our forward shared his current mindset.

“I was just speaking to Paul about this before, now I just feel so free and I’m just looking forward to the games because it’s been a long time since I’ve been completely free of injuries and stuff like that.

“I’m just ready for the games.”

Next up for Rashford and the Reds is of course tonight’s meeting with Burnley at the Theatre of Dreams.

The game will no doubt be watched by a crowd of over 70,000+ inside the stadium, at the end of a year which had started with no supporters in attendance at matches, due to restrictions in place to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Marcus has also looked back on how fans have fortunately been able to return to Old Trafford this year, as well as sharing his thanks to the United faithful for the backing over the last 12 months.

“It’s been a difficult year for the fans as it has been for everyone. But when the fans came back the excitement and the buzz of football just went back to the level it was always at.

“For me, I’d say don’t underestimate how important the fans are to the players. When you’re running on the pitch in the 70th, 80th minute and you’re completely drained, they’re the ones who keep you going.

“It probably explains why Man United score so many late goals. We try to use the energy of the fans and try to put that into the team.

“So, I’d just like to say thank you to them for their support.”JAMB Result
