NBA shuts courts, protests kidnap of A’Ibom High Court judge

The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) took a strong stand against the recent abduction of a High Court Judge, Hon. Justice Joy Unwana, and the killing of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet. In response to these events, NBA members shut down courts on Wednesday as a form of protest.JAMB Result

Justice Unwana, along with her driver, Idorinyin Ekanem, was kidnapped on Monday around 8 pm on the Okobo-Esuk Inwang – Ndon Ebom road by armed gunmen. This incident occurred while they were returning to Uyo after the final family court session of the year. Tragically, during the attack, Justice Unwana’s police orderly was killed.NYSC Portal

The protest, led by the NBA Chairman of the Oron Branch, Torosco Eyene Esq., saw members singing solidarity songs and carrying placards with various messages. Addressing the protesters, Eyene strongly condemned the abduction of the Judge, calling it a wicked act.

Eyene appealed to the state Governor, Umo Eno, and law enforcement agencies to ensure the prompt and safe release of Justice Unwana. He also emphasized the need for adequate facilities for the judicial arm of the government, highlighting the importance of autonomy, dignity, and effectiveness in the judiciary.JAMB Portal
