Reps Summons Finance, Education Ministers As Asuu Strike looms

The House of Representatives has invited the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu and the Minister of Finance, Budget National Planning, Zainab Ahmed over the recent threat by the the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to embark on a fresh strike. Information Guide Nigeria 

According to DAILY POST, the Speaker of the House of Representative, Femi Gbajabiamila announced the invitation after the house adopted a motion by Julius Ihovbare.

The Speaker of the House of Reps, Gbajabiamila said that funds should be released to universities to forestall more strikes in the interest of students and the entire country. Jamb Result

DAILY POST reports that a member of the house, Hon. Ihovbare said, “The federal government has not been quite forthcoming, neither has it attached any consistent seriousness to the urgent need to reposition and refocus the education sector in line with our developmental objectives.”

Also speaking in favour of the motion, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha (APC, Abia) called on the federal government to live up to its responsibilities and fulfil the agreements it reached with ASUU.
