Russia Fines Facebook, Twitter Over Banned Content

Russia has accused US-based companies of interfering in parliamentary polls due later this month as Russia’s foreign ministry summons the US ambassador in Moscow over US tech giants’ “interference” in the polls.

Channel Television reports that a court in Moscow on Tuesday slapped Twitter with five million rubles and Facebook with five fines amounting to 21 million rubles ($288,000). Information Guide Nigeria

TASS news agency reports that Facebook has so far been fined 90 million rubles in Russia and Twitter 45 million, for not deleting content it labels illegal, such as pornographic material or posts condoning drugs, suicide amongst others. Jamb Results

Also, judicial authorities have also fined Google for the same offences and for failing to store the data of Russian users on domestic services.
