The difficult decision Thomas Tuchel must take to keep Chelsea’s Premier League title bid on track
The West London team were guilty of wasting several chances during their 1-1 draw with Manchester United, with Timo Werner wasteful once again. As the ball fell to Timo Werner 12 yards from the Manchester United goal, there was a collective draw of breath from those within Stamford Bridge. This was the forward’s moment. A chance to level a game Chelsea did not deserve to be losing. infoguidenigeria
It wasn’t an easy opportunity – very few are given what is at stake in Premier League matches – but Werner is a German international, a £49.5million signing from RB Leipzig, a proven goalscorer.
Unfortunately, Timo Werner has never lived up to that billing during his 18 months as a Chelsea player. He has struck just seven times in the Premier League and his effort during yesterday’s 1-1 draw never came close to changing that disappointing statistics.
The 25-year old forward has been afforded countless chances at Chelsea, both under Frank Lampard and Tuchel. Yet he has never convinced when leading the attack and has his limitations when used as one of the tens.

No doubt, Timo has certain qualities; his pace is a threat against opponents that play with a high line and he does work hard against the ball. But against defences that sit deep and sides that restrict space, Werner tends to offer very little. That was proved once again yesterday against United. jamb result
Since taking charge at Stamford Bridge at the end of January, Tuchel has transformed the fortunes of almost every member of his squad.
Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have blossomed into world-class defenders. Reece James has become the complete wing-back. Jorginho is playing the best football of his Chelsea career, yesterday’s error notwithstanding.
In the weeks ahead, the Blues are going to have to be ruthless in the penalty area to sustain a Premier League title bid. And it’s for that reason and place on the bench may await for Werner with Romelu Lukaku back from injury and Kai Havertz fit once more.
