Four killed in Delta crash, vehicle burnt

14 people are reported to have died as a result of flooding in various towns throughout the state, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency.

Ahmed Inga, the agency’s director general, issued a statement on Monday identifying the localities where the people were killed as Magama, Kontagora, Agwara, Rafi, Lavun, Bosso, and Paikoro. According to him, the warning was necessary after the Nigerian Hydrological Services ordered residents near the River Niger in the states of Kwara, Niger, and Kogi to migrate.

As a result of water being released from the state’s Kainji and Jeba hydro dams, Inga continued, the agency had issued the warning.

According to him, the state was already feeling the effects of the flooding, with certain local government districts having houses, farms, bridges, and connected highways washed away.

Inga added that assessments of the effects of the flood were still being conducted and that there would be a recurrent update.
He made an appeal to all parties involved, including the conventional institutions, wealthy individuals, and the media, to assist in spreading information about the impending disaster.

 “Three men and a lady died on the spot while others sustained serious injuries. Immediately the occupants ran away but angry youths set the car ablaze. We suspected that they were yahoo boys,” the eyewitness said.

However, another eyewitness said the driver of the Toyota Camry car was driving at top speed when the vehicle experienced a brake failure.

“The vehicle was over speeding but the driver could not control the vehicle when it experienced brake failure and veered off to the other side where people were and killed four persons. It was a terrible accident,” the eyewitness said.JAMB Result
