1. Market Places

The South-East zone of Nigeria is known for selling and buying. Their wealth comes from the market places. Their daily income comes from the marketplaces. Now, at every sit-at-home order, all the marketplaces are closed. This has a great impact on the economic activities of the whole zone. Nobody sells and nobody buys.

2. Hoodlums

Hoodlums are always looking for the opportunity to strike. When a sit-at-home order is given, the streets become quiet. This gives the hoodlums the impetus to carry out their activities. The activities of the hoodlums have a great negative economic impact on the South East. Such negative economic impact in the South East affects the whole of Nigeria as well.

Thus, IPOB is only creating an avenue for hoodlums to carry out their activities in the South East. This is bad.

3. Terrorists

Terrorists are hindered by the presence of persons. When there is a sit-at-home order, terrorists terrorize people found in the streets. They intimidate people. They molest people. They kill in the process.

If the federal government say that IPOB is a terrorist group, it is denied. It is seen as a slight on them. Besides, what they are doing gives them the name more than anybody can call them.

Is it the sit-at-home orders that will free their leader from the charges he is facing in the court? Provoking the federal government is only worsening the situation. The sit-at-home orders are mere provocations to the federal government. This is so because it is losing billions in the process. The economy is tampered with, more so that the group is a proscribed one.

4. School Children

During sit-at-home orders, all schools are closed because nobody is allowed to go to any place. Schoolchildren cannot go to school. Meanwhile, their parents have paid their school fees. They cannot learn anything. This has a negative economic impact.dollar to naira rate

The last sit-at-home order coincided with the West African School Certificate Examination. Many schoolchildren could not go to the examination centres. The future of these children is already being jeopardized. Their future economic life is now hindered. They have to rewrite this examination. The money that their parents had spent in registering them is lost. Money has to be re-paid for them to re-register the examination.

5. Killings

Nobody dares to disobey the sit-at-home orders. Anybody found in the streets can be killed. Any person that is killed can no longer contribute to the economic advancement of the zone. Such a person cannot also contribute to the advancement of the economy of Nigeria.

6. Transporters

IPOB’s sit-at-home order makes transporters not carry out their transporting activities. They cannot earn any income. They cannot feed their families. Everything is at a standstill situation.

7. Government Workers

Until Nigeria is divided, it remains one entity. The federal government still has its workers in the zone. These workers cannot go to work during sit-at-home orders. All the economic activities of these workers are hindered. They cannot generate any income. Banks cannot work. This has an enormous negative economic impact on the states that are affected. This also has the same negative economic impact on the nation in general.

8. Self-Employed Workers

The private sector contributes to the economic advancement of the zone. The same thing goes for Nigeria in general. During sit-at-home orders, not all self-employed workers can carry out their economic activities. This hurts the economy.JAMB form

Apart from those who live in the zone, those who come into the zone to carry out their economic activities are equally affected. They cannot come into the zone for anything. People are thrown into serious confusion.

9. More Hardship

A situation where everything is at a standstill brings more hardship than anticipated. To IPOB, they are the saviours of the South East Zone of Nigeria. Besides, looking closely and deeply into what is happening in the zone, one can see clearly that more hardship is in the zone than is being averted.

IPOB is only punishing the people of the South-East the more. They are not providing a solution to any problem of the South East. Neither are they providing a solution to any problem of Nigeria in general.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, people were crying. The government has to give some palliatives. Yet, people were still crying for hardship. The COVID-19 hardship is over. IPOB is now bringing another total lockdown. This is not fair to the South-East people.

10. Nigeria loses

Only IPOB sees the South-East Zone of Nigeria to be different from Nigeria as a whole. The federal government sees the South-East zone as part of the whole nation. Thus, whatever happens to the zone affects Nigeria in general.

When there is a total lockdown of the South-East zone, the zone loses. When the zone loses, Nigeria loses too. This sit-at-home order has made Nigeria lose billions of naira in general.

When a sit-at-home order is issued, movement of any kind is restricted. This affects the federal government, as well. This is so because the federal government has its offices in the South-East zone.JAMB Result

This is why the federal government is not happy with IPOB. The federal government sees IPOB as a group that is hindering the economic growth of Nigeria.

If the federal government had told the South East to sit at home, it would have been seen as punishment for them. The South-East will like to fight back. Now that IPOB declares it, it is not punishment. What an irony!
