The Coalition of National Interest Defenders, a human rights organisation, raised the alarm on Thursday about a new scheme to launch what it described as a concerted attack and smear campaigns against the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, over the central bank’s policies.Information Guide Nigeria
The organisation, which claimed that plans to attack the CBN Headquarters had been finalised, said that the Department of State Services was intending to re-arrest Emefiele despite a court order.

While calling for the President’s intervention, Ohazuruike said, “Despite the clear and direct orders of the High court of the FCT, the DSS was insistent that it would arrest Emefiele. The flagrant violation of the rule of law is very worrisome. Nigeria is a democracy and as such, the rule of law must prevail at all times.”NYSC portal
He said that the attempt to depose the CBN Governor was funded by money launderers, vote buys, election riggers, and corrupt politicians.
“Some governors who looted the bailout funds to their states from whom the CBN recovered huge amounts including a governor from whom the CBN recovered N20bn are part of those asking for Emefiele’s head”, he said.JAMB portal
He said that nearly $2 million had been raised to organise media smear campaigns and protests against Emefiele and the CBN.
The CSOs urged the DSS to apologise to Emefiele for the pain he had endured, as well as the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to apologise and express support for his policies.
Ohazuruike posed a number of queries on the reportedly plundered N89tn stamp tax fund.
