ZOA’s Programme in Nigeria

  • ZOA started operations in Nigeria December 2016, supporting IDPs and returnees of Boko Haram affected states. In the selection of the beneficiaries, we pay careful attention to include the most vulnerable households. Continuously promoting community governance, inclusion, peace, and stability in these fragmented and traumatized communities is a challenging but essential part of ZOA’s programme.
  • ZOA currently has full team in Borno State, respond to the critical needs in Food Security and livelihood and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Education as well.

We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:

1.) Project Officer, FSL

Location: Borno

Deadline: 28th October, 2022.

Purpose of the Position

  • The Project Officer is responsible to support the Project Manager in implementing the Cash Based Transfer (CBT) project under the FSL activities of ZOA.
  • The project officer is based in Maiduguri where daily activities will be conducted.
  • The position is 12months fixed term renewable based on funding availability.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong understanding of the situation in each target community.
  • Be ZOA’s first contact point for each community, including for any complaints or concerns raised by community and acting as liaison between communities and technical project staff.
  • Support project manager to ensure that vulnerable groups within the communities are represented and heard.
  • Liaising with key community stakeholders.
  • Contribute to field research, needs assessments, evaluations etc., from time to time, as directed.
  • Supervise Project Assistants. Develop weekly and monthly work plans with the team. Track the team’s ability to deliver on the plan and report back to the team each week.
  • Assist in Project Manager with field activities including registration and selection of beneficiaries; conduct of community entry meetings and education of beneficiaries and local leaders about project processes.
  • In collaboration with Project Assistants, support the distribution of cash in line with the Manual of Operations and other guidelines set by ZOA and ensure that the distribution is transparent.
  • Coordinate closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation Team ensure smooth access to beneficiaries and vendors and cooperate with all monitoring systems and recommendation.
  • When assigned, represent the organization and the program in relevant forums.
  • Document lessons learned and human-interest stories of the project and ensure that they are uploaded in ZOA Manager
  • Prepare work plans and reports (i.e., weekly plans, weekly reports, other field reports)
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to ZOA and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.

2.) Agriculture Officer

Location: Borno

Purpose of the Position

  • To lead in the implementation of agricultural and food security related interventions to enable own production of food and restoration of livestock assets.
  • The incumbent will the focal person for agricultural innovation, nutrition sensitive agriculture and scaling up of new approaches to improve micro-agricultural practices for both vegetables and small livestock in displacement affected communities.
  • The position is 12months fixed term renewable based on funding availability.

Agricultural Extension:

  • Design demonstration plots to promote improved production, facilitate demand creation, and show case nutrition sensitive agriculture.
  • Demonstrate manure/ compost making, conservation farming, crop protection, water harvesting, micro-irrigation, etc.
  • Develop cropping calendars allowing crop rotation and all year-round production of vegetables.
  • Train led farmers, volunteers and or cluster of farmers and conduct home visits to monitor production.
  • Facilitate garden days every season with key learning themes based on beneficiary successes.
  • Identify and promote low input soil, nutrient and water conservation techniques that can achieved with locally available resources.
  • Identify opportunities to link WASH – Solid Waste management and nutrient recycling for improved fruit and vegetable production.

Low Input Gardening Technology Support:

  • Lead in the design, demonstration and scaling up of relevant low-input kitchen/micro-gardening production systems.
  • Research, and identify appropriate micro-garden permaculture systems (e.g. key hole gardening) relevant to communities with limited space.
  • Develop a basket of micro-gardening options (including vertical, sack etc.) vegetable production systems that can be sustained for all year round.
  • Apply relevant soil nutrient improvement and promote backyard soil fertility improvement practices.

Small-livestock Production Support:

  • Promote rearing of small livestock (poultry & goats)
  • Train farmers in breeding, and husbandry practices to increase per capita livestock count
  • Design and promote appropriate livestock housing in space limited contexts.

Harvesting & Post Harvesting:

  • Design and promote appropriate harvesting and post harvesting management of vegetables.
  • Support nutrition education in cooking demonstrations.
  • Ensure the siting and husbandry of micro-gardens align to basic on field food safety standards.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Produce vegetable production reports.
  • Support in tracking amount of food consumed from own production.

3.) MEAL Officer

Location: Borno

Deadline: 31st October, 2022.

Purpose of the position
Provide MEAL expertise to strengthen ZOA- Nigeria’s core sector programming areas, namely WASH, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods. The incumbent will play a critical role in strengthening partnerships, business development and knowledge management.

MEAL tool development and data management:

  • Develop and rollout relevant data collection tools for baseline lines, process and outcomes indicator tracking including relevant assessments and studies.
  • Support project officers to collect relevant data and report objectively all field monitoring activities.
  • Timely update and share data on the 4W matrix to the cluster management system for all ZOA sectors.
  • Facilitate integration of project outputs and outcomes showing the impact of ZOA’s work in Nigeria across the key sectors.
  • Develop appealing infographics and dashboards that allow easy project activity, output & outcome tracking.
  • Adopt and utilize ZOA tools in measuring implementation of ZOA’s key thematic areas (Localization, peace nexus & climate change) & cross cutting themes.

Monitoring and reporting:

  • Maintain and update the overall projects indicator tracker-based project designs and donor requirements;
  • Develop M&E plans for all projects and proposals and ensure the same is followed up during implementation;
  • Ensure all grants have updated work-plan and performance management plan (PMPs) in tandem with all approved proposals, regularly reviewing and updating as needed;
  • Carry out data quality assessments / audits regularly for MEAL data based on agreed indicators to guide decision making;
  • Review monthly progress reports from partners and ensure they have evidence to back-up and provide feedback to the respective staff;
  • Ensure that cross cutting issues such as participation, gender, age and disability are effectively . addressed / mainstreamed in all project implementations as part of ensuring accountability.

Assessments, surveys and evaluation:

  • Lead and/or coordinate all country assessments, evaluations and performance evaluation tasks including planning and reporting on the same;
  • Assist in the development of TOR for external surveys and consultant recruitments / selection;
  • Timely plan and initiate all pre and post intervention assessments, KAP surveys, After Action Reviews, Post Distribution Monitoring and Real Time Evaluation of emergency programmes.

Learning, accountability and capacity building:

  • Share learning and provide constructive comments to colleagues in order to ensure programme quality;
  • Build capacity of staff through training to ensure adoption of new data monitoring tools and quality of data collected;
  • Regularly collect data on and analyse the Complaints Reporting and Feedback Mechanism (CRFM) accountability data to the ZOA team to facilitate quality improvement.

Representation, fundraising, liaison and communication:

  • Participate in delegated cluster and thematic group meetings clearly articulating the work ZOA is doing;
  • Map partners with similar programming interests and engage for possible future partnerships;
  • Work with the HQ communication team to ensure that communication products developed and shared enhances the visibility of ZOA and supporting donors;
  • Support the country office in proposal development, tracking funding trends.

Person Specifications

  • Master’s Degree in any relevant study area with experience in Humanitarian and Development work monitoring and evaluation preferred.
  • Experience in implementing at least two of ZOA’s key sectors (WASH, Education, FSL)
  • Demonstrated experience in data processing and management of large-scale surveys.
  • Experienced in Results based reporting using standard food security, livelihoods, resilience, WASH, Education in Emergencies, Household Economic Strengthening, Gender Based Violence.
  • Demonstrated experience of statistical packages and/ or data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Excel, Epi Info, SMART, STAT 01) and advanced computer skills (word-processing, spread sheets, and databases) are a must.
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing integrated public health, social protection, education, food security & livelihoods, projects are an added advantage.
