Ways of Improving INEC

  1. The Support of all Nigerians

The success of INEC depends upon all Nigerians. For this reason, to improve INEC, all Nigerians must support INEC.Improve INEC in Nigeria

The moment the vote-buying politicians stop to buy votes, INEC’s credibility will be assured. Similarly, to improve INEC, INEC’s corrupt officials must shun corruption.

Those who change election result figures are all Nigerians. When they stop to change result figures, INEC shall improve. What about those who snatch ballot boxes are they not Nigerians? These people are causing the failure of INEC. To improve INEC, they must all stop their nefarious activities.

Therefore, to improve INEC, all Nigerians must support this election umpire. INEC has nothing to gain other than the success of the elections it conducts. Remember that when a righteous man is on the throne, the people rejoice.  But, when an unrighteous man is there, the people suffer. It is only with the help of all Nigerians that INEC can put a righteous man on the seat of Nigeria’s governance.

  1. Autonomy

To improve INEC, all INEC officials must work towards its autonomy. All of their functions must be carried out independently. They must make sure that they are free from the control of all external bodies.

The moment they do not allow external influence, all that they do will become transparent. Their transparency will then yield integrity. At this point, we shall then say that INEC has improved.

  1. Provision of Adequate Infrastructure

To improve INEC, every needed infrastructure must be available. Now that electronic card reading has come to stay, INEC must make sure that card readers do not fail due to lack of power.JAMB Result

Nigeria is still plagued with epileptic power supply. Therefore, generators must be available with standby mechanics that will ensure their functionality. Similarly, there must be multiple card readers in all polling stations in case one malfunction. All needed materials must be available at the right time.

  1. Provision of Security

Insecurity has not been totally eradicated from Nigeria. It then follows that INEC officials and other Nigerians must be secured during elections. To do this, there must be enough security agents all over the nation during elections.

  1. Provision for Logistics

One problem of INEC is the late arrival of election materials. Therefore, INEC must improve on this wise. To improve in this area, INEC must make all forms of transportation ready. It should know that boats are needed in the riverine areas. Boats that are fitted with lifejackets should be available for the possible movement of people and materials to their different destinations on time.

  1. Election Results Prompt Release

To improve, INEC must make sure that the results of all elections are released at the right time. The moment elections are concluded, INEC should release the results immediately. There should not be room for the manipulation of figures.JAMB Form

Computers are fast machines. In this modern world, nobody calculates figures with his head. Even handsets have calculators embedded in them. With these machines, INEC can make the prompt release of all results.

  1. Provision of Suitable Polling Units

Now that we are still practising social distancing, INEC should provide suitable adequate polling units. Nothing stops INEC from building its personal polling centres. Depending upon dilapidated school buildings as polling units is a failure.WAEC Result

Since many people will not be allowed to vote at the same time, polling units should be available everywhere. This will enable people to vote before the time allocated expires.

This is where our lawmakers should be innovative enough to help Nigerians go forward. If the old woman in the village can use her phone to transfer money to her child in school, why can she not use the same phone to vote for the person of her choice?

Nigeria is more than ripe for electronic voting. Electronic voting is the modern trend. INEC should adopt it.

  1. Provision of Adequate Collation Centres

Again, this is where electronic voting can be of immense help to INEC. With electronic voting, election results are transmitted directly to INEC’s office. Thus, the central computer makes immediate collation. Within minutes, election results are ready for announcement. This is the technology for you.

With electronic voting, no need for many collation centres. Now that we have chosen to remain in the analogue and have refused to move up to the digital stage, INEC should make sure there are adequate collation centres. Thus, the prompt release of results will be guaranteed.

  1. Innovation

It is a welcome development to know that INEC has an online portal where intending voters can register. To improve INEC, we need more such innovations.

Furthermore, our lawmakers should become innovative enough to back INEC with the necessary laws that will help it to move forward and upward. They should have the same eyes that INEC has for them to see the way INEC sees.

The work of INEC cannot succeed alone. It needs people who will help it to succeed. The lawmakers and the presidency are the number one people. They all should fight for a better Nigeria.

The time has come that we should shun selfishness. When it comes to governance in Nigeria, it should not matter who governs it. President Goodluck Jonathan has shown us a good example.Npower Recruitment

No Nigerian should see the governance of Nigeria as a do-or-die affair. All that matters is the betterment of Nigeria. Whoever will make Nigeria better should be at the head no matter the tribe he comes from.

  1. Provision of Modern Technology

Modern technology is now ruling the entire universe. Why should INEC be talking about lack of power when solar power is available twenty-four hours?

Nigeria should not continue to remain a developing country. It should move up to a developed country. Developed countries are marked with modern technology. INEC should follow suit.

INEC should find out the modern technology developed countries are using in their elections and adopt the same. Thus, for improvement’s sake, INEC should make provision for modern technology.
